    During the MLS Playoffs, ESPN advertised the France vs. Sweden World Cup Qualifier on Friday. ESPN mistakenly listed the game under the heading "UEFA Champions League."

    Last night’s MLS Eastern Conference Championship Series - Leg #1 - featuring Montreal Impact and Toronto FC had it all – including record-breaking ratings. Overnight data from Numeris confirms that an average audience of more than 1 million viewers watched the match on both TSN (595,000*) and RDS (429,000*) – making it Canada’s most-watched MLS match ever. *Average Minute Audience from Match Start Time to Match End Time - Source: Numeris.

    Jonathan Tannenwald ‏@thegoalkeeper -
    RDS alone drew 392,000 viewers for #IMFC vs. #TFCLive last night, with a peak audience of 834,000.
    That’s enormous.

    A good match was seen too! And those ratings #'s are all the more impressive, given that the game was delayed for at least 30 mins due to them having to repaint the 18 yard box after the warm-up! Now that was TRUE drama.

    I don't know if this is very late news, but I watched ESPNFC for the first time in a long while today and noticed that they showed highlights of the la liga matches. It was discussed here that for a long while (a couple of years) they didn't show highlights from the BeIN owned leagues (they'd show newspaper headlines instead of highlights), but I don't recall anyone mentioning that they started showing the highlights again.

    Me too, I did a double-take last night. It was so huge that I thought it was odd that the guys in the studio didn't seem to make note of it, just acted like the vids have always been there.

    But one thing I did notice is that the highlights they showed were very limited in nature. In the 2 games which featured 8 or more goals each, they showed like one or maybe 2 "highlights", one of which was a PK being awarded. Made me wonder if they've got very restricted permissions on what they can air?

    Another "RED CARD" given out by ESPN...

    Doug McIntyre - @DougMacESPN - Reporter. #usmnt insider. Former staff writer @espn and ESPN The Magazine.

    @DougMacESPN
    - I grew up at ESPN. Learned from the best in the biz, then traveled the world covering #usmnt. "Dream job" doesn’t do it justice. So grateful. Thanks for all the kind words, and to everyone who’s read me over the years. I don’t plan on being sidelined long. Excited for what’s next.

    When will ESPN finally dyop using the silly SPI index? On tonight's graphic they showed four teams having <1% chance of winning the EPL title when in fact they have already been mathematically eliminated, i.e. 0%.

    Their SPI index has to be the dumbest thing they focus upon on all their shows.
    Most people don't care.
