Which reminds me.... During his interview of Jason, Jason made some comment about HIS performance being perfect; it was the RINGS that were acting crazy. Penn just laughed - understandable. But I wish he had played it straight and asked Jason to explain what his rings were doing, do they act up often, etc... I wonder how long an interview like that could have gone on before Jason would have realized that he was being made fun of.
Imagine that happening with Teller present by Penn's side and "seriously" looking on. Would Jason have left in an even greater huff than he ended up doing? -G
Funny episode, particularly with the SSX Garvey videogame ad for the Cheapstation 2 and the present-day Michael Floorwax saving the show from bankruptcy. -G
I guess that really was Michael Floorwax............you could tell from his total lack of humor. Steve Garvey sure had a lot of lame specials.....
And it turns out that he's currently a radio station DJ in Denver, as well as the lead singer of The Groove Hawgs. It'd also be (bee?) interesting if Randy and Jason could get present-day Rebecca Sealfon to make an appearance. It turns out that the skiing special highlighted in this episode of Cheap Seats was his sixth-annual skiing special. -G
Unbelievable... Now THAT would be good TV........in fact, get all those spelling bee personalities together for a reunion - Let's just see how far in life all that spelling took them. But what is chilling is that this was before cable/satellite.........most, if not all, this stuff was on one of only THREE MAJOR NETWORKS........
I know im responding to an old post but didnt see where anyone answered you. I have seen the Inside Cheap seats episode several times so it is being reaired. Its hilarious. When does the show regularly air? Ill never forget how much I laughed at that 97 spelling bee episode!
That's the only episode of Cheap Seats that I've ever missed, so hopefully they'll air it again soon. New episodes first air on Mondays. The hour-long version of the 1997 Spelling Bee (aired during the first season when the episodes were an hour long) is still the funniest Cheap Seats episode ever thus far. -G
Funny episode tonight, particularly when Randy and Jason started performing their "Bone Poetry" (in similar style to the "Pam Minnick Rap"). -G
Beat me to it. That and their Dueling Carsons are hilarious. I am really glad they've cut out all that crap they tried the last season or two (live audience, some of the ESPN hosts) and just went back to being funny. Goodsport, they alluded to it a couple of times, but have you noticed the audiences during these wrestling shows........It looks like they're just sitting there, waiting for something else.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. They still use the ESPN hosts once in a while, but they seem more judicious about it now. For the most part, they've reverted back to the basics (for the better). It seems that this wrestling bout was another one of those low-budget fares from the late 1970's - early 1980's. I've also noticed the audience and have wondered if they really wanted to be there. Quite a different crowd that then ones who go watch the WWE nowadays, huh? -G
It turns out that the Inside Cheap Seats episode is scheduled to air again on the morning of Saturday, August 19th. So if you haven't seen it and/or want to see it again, set the timer on your VCR and/or DVR accordingly. -G
cheap seats may be the only good thing that "ESPN Original Entertainment" has come up with besides maybe Pardon the Interruption. It's a great show, funniest episode ever was the wide world of sports one with the cliff divers, or may be even the cal-stanford game they did.
Now that I've watched the episode, my Cheap Seats viewing to this point is complete. Until this coming Monday, of course. -G
