    Edit:
    Title should have been:
ESPN+ announced as Exclusive Local Media Rights Partner ... or
Chicago Fire fans take it up the ass again.

There appear to be a good number of (actual?) people on Twitter defending and/or outright excited about this announcement. I think it sucks.

If they'd made a deal to get their games on espn+ AND a local broadcaster, that would be one thing... but JUST espn+ is weak IMO...

What the hell is this crap? I really want to care about the local team, but it was hard enough with the games blocked on SlingTV for no reason at all last season.

Just when things seemed to be looking up for the team.

Do you have to pay $4.99 on top of your ESPN Insider subscription? If so, that's not that great.

But if you get all your Fire games (home & away) and all the other MLS games that you would normally get from MLS Live then this is a much better value than MLS Live used to be, right?

This is 100x better than going with youtubeTV - it's a multi platform option and doesn't hammer you into a provider.

    But it still sucks ...

I guess one good thing about this is that you'd also get access to MLS LIVE (which will carry tons of out-of-market matches) so you can actually watch a few decent teams play... and you can just cancel the monthly service whenever you want... theoretically you'd be able to watch a ton of MLS throughout the season for a total of about $40

I haven't searched this answer out yet as it's fresh news for me. But I was thinking about ESPN+ since it looks like alot of the soccer is going to it. And it does look better value than MLSlive was.

So if you pay the 5 bucks a month for what has become MLS Live, you now get ESPN and the Fire.

I'm guessing MLS helped out the Fire.

So ESPN+ launches later this spring , until then all "non national TV" MLS games are viewable through MLS website for free.

This is as minor league as it gets.

    I won't be paying, so I won't be watching.

I’m old and technology inept. How do I watch the Chicago fire on my tv? Serious question. How does ESPN + work?

This team needs to fold and cease operations. How many people will tune in to watch fire games now? Seriously, like 4K people or less.

Yes, but do you fish?
If not, then "cutting bait" is simply fish* mutilation and that seems a bit mean.:whistling:

Considering that ESPN + is not local and not a media partner.

I guess the correct thread title should be:

Fire Announces it Has no Local Media Partner, signing instead with ESPN +.

    Or,
as @Y tu mama tambien states:
Chicago Fire fans take it up the ass again

You need a device that connects your TV to the internet. Roku/Amazon Fire TV/Google TV/Apple TV/PS4/Xbox/etc. ESPN+ will be an app, just like netflix or hulu would be.

Then you'll need to pay the $4.99/month (even if you have a cable/satellite subscription that includes ESPN).

Biggest problem I have with it is that last bit. ESPN+ is a paid service for what used to be free (ESPN3 offerings). It does not include anything being shown on ESPN's actual TV stations. ESPN needs to realize that they need to be streaming ALL of their content for cord-cutters.

On the plus side, ESPN+ is also the new MLS Live platform, so your $4.99 will get you all MLS non-national broadcast games.

Once again I don't want to watch games on my computer or cell phone. I want to watch on my big screen non-smart tv.

This is ********ing dumb. Only people who will subscribe are current fans and some of the current fans already overpaying for cable won't be able to watch the games without paying more. How do you entice new fans at all without a free outlet to view the game? Most people already have cable it's just the reality of the situation right now. So basically only loyal fans will be watching everybody else will just say ******** it and watch something dumb like baseball or something. So stupid. This isn't bayern munich or manchester united. We can't create our own streaming service and just say hey go watch the game here.

So that’s my problem too. Sal’s post helped me, but I’m still confused. I can get Netflix on my tv cause it’s built in. I guess I need a Roku? Or amazon fire? I don’t even know what those things are. The fire is basically saying f you to every old, middle aged or tech challenged person.
