Great work. Freiburg is one of the best youth academies in all of the Bundesliga. They aren't afraid to give younger players a chance and Streich is a fantastic trainer. Only limitation with them is $$$ but it's looking like they'll stay up in BL 1 which is good.
Brian Sciaretta @BrianSciaretta17m Eric Lickert called up by the US U20s again. On Saturday he will play for Freiburg against Schalke in the final of the German Junior Cup. Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More
Congratulations to Eric! Freiburg defeat Schalke to win the Junior German Cup Lickert went a full 120 in a 1-1 (8-7) win Lickert converted his shootout PK to help Freiburg win the championship
Nice! It's the fifth time Freiburg have won Junioren -Vereinspokal. http://www.scfreiburg.com/node/8257
Here's a photo slideshow. Eric is picture #2 http://www.badische-zeitung.de/spor...gewinnen-im-dfb-pokalfinale-gegen-schalke-8-7
Video of the Cup final and the trophy presentation. Pretty cool stuff, especially when the Dortmund fans in the Olympiastadion in Berlin cheered them for having defeated Schalke
Appears Lickert wasn't in the future plans for Freiburg because he's transferred to 3. Liga side SpVgg Unterhaching http://www.transfermarkt.de/unterhaching/transfers/verein/66/saison_id/2014 @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent thread title change? Eric Lickert at SpVgg Unterhaching
Probably. They wouldn't pick him up unless they thought he had potential to play. It's funny, SpVgg Unterhaching is probably known just as much for their bobsledding team as they are for their soccer team. Their soccer team was in the Bundesliga in the late 90s, but they've been stuck in the 3 Liga for quite a while now, If I'm remembering things correctly. Also, looks like they barely avoided relegation this season so they're probably looking for cheap reinforcements. EDIT: Image of their crest. Notice the bobsleigh (to prove I'm not just talking out of my ass).
Nuff people say, you know they can't believe, Unteraching we have a bobsled team! Also saw that the new coach was recently the German u-18 coach and the captain was only like 23, so it sounds like playing time will be available for young guys.
Obviously, would be better if he were still moving up at Freiburg, but 3.Liga really is not a bad level for an 18yo kid (just ask Julian Green & Terrence Boyd)--particularly if he can get minutes with the 1st team.
Well, Julian has never played in the 3. Liga, to my knowledge. But yeah, it's not a bad level. Some kids choose to go that route (going to a smaller club) rather than playing with a reserve team.
soccer or bobsled pro? Please specify. If it's the ladder, I assume since we haven't been enlightened on Eric's bobsledding skills, he enters as a youth. No way they can just throw him out on the ice tracks and say "here ya go" Although......... that happened with the Jamaicans
He's got an ankle injury, also on the injury list Fabian Goetze & Jonas Hummels: http://www.dfb.de/news/detail/spitzenspiel-zwischen-wehen-wiesbaden-und-dresden-104547/
Lickert made his first appearance for Unterhaching's reserves two weeks ago against VfB Eichstätt and then played a full 90 against TSV Schwabmünchen (both great names). Unterhaching II are terrible and have no wins and just three points from 15 games in the Bayernliga-Süd (fifth division). Hopefully this is just a rehab stint for Lickert and he moves up to the first team soon. @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent this one goes to the academy.
