I spoke yesterday with the mother of Eric Lickert, who still retains a bit of her Minnessota accent though she has been in Germany a good while. Eric is a '95 midfielder with their A-Jugend who stands about 6 ft. at the moment: http://www.scfreiburg.com/teams/junioren/u19/kader He was born in Germany, and his father is German, but he has a U.S. passport and the family retains ties to the States. Here's an April video in which he scores a goal after a nice first touch around 0:50: I've got some photos his mother shared that I will post shortly -- think I need to post them online somewhere, they are too large to upload through BS.
Goal 5/5 vs. Augsburg U-19s: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/sc-freiburg-u19-fc-augsburg-u19/index/spielbericht_2241893.html That's 2 in his last 3 games.
Can anyone confirm that his teammate Raul Sick is a Yank? http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/raul-sick/profil/spieler_155958.html
I cannot. But I can confirm his name is badass. And that I've started a new thread for him to resolve your question & track him till we get an answer: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/sick-young-talent-in-germany.1987658/
I've heard that Freiburg U-19 midfielder Eric Lickert has been called in the upcoming US U-20 camp in Florida.— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) January 2, 2014
So is this guy an attacking player? All I've seen is his apparently right sided but idk if at RB/RM/RW
FYI.. his mom was from Minnesota but went to the University of Michigan where she was in the marching band and even marched at 2 Rose Bowls. She studied abroad in Germany and that is where she met her husband/Eric's father. Eric's English is really, really good.
A white German-American with an American mother, this could be a game changer. Hopefully Shawn Kauter is in a camp soon, he's played a good bit for Hertha's u23s despite only being 17.
Oh don't think Eric's a new trendsetter --- that belongs to the one and only Jonathan Spector whose mom is German! Anways, on a serious note, that was a wonderful like brief interview with Eric. He seems very, very humble and surprised by the call-up. He said he wasn't sure how he popped up on Ramos' radar. It very well could have been his pal Caleb Stanko.
Duh...... I should have known that! That's why USSF pays @Dave Marino-Nachison the big bucks! Or at least should!!! We should start a petition and start lobbying for Dave.
Your alter-ego?? ***Changed it before I thought you would catch it! Once again......I should know better. You are quicker than cat.***
I took a look at his Transfermarkt profile and saw that his representative was listed as "Ohne Berater." With my elementary German, I knew something wasn't right there. Turns out that means "Without advisor." Ohne represents a nice slate of clients around the world. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/-ohne-berater/details/berater_96.html
Yeah, Lickert and I have the same agent. Presumably means he's not a pro yet. Certainly possible at his age. @m vann, no worries. All in good fun.
Born on July 4 - that's American enough for me. The German dudes had to go after the American women because all the German women are hooking up with black American servicemen. (In case anyone is offended by this, it was said in jest in reference to all the German-American players with white German mothers and black American fathers who were in the military.)
Eric went a full 90 on Saturday for SC Freiburg's U19s in a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the semifinals of the U19 DFB Cup They will face Schalke in the finals on May 17 http://www.scfreiburg.com/node/7327
