People have to be very careful abaout writing players off when they dont appear in a good performance. Herrera on form, coupled with Matic and Pogba forms a beast of a midfield. I dare say we'll see that in tough away games and against bigger teams. also, Herrera is a very good attacking player when given the chance to push up more...something he can do alongside Matic. He will probably sit some game to allow Mata or Miki to play 10...but I'm pretty sure he will see a lot of minutes this season.
herrera is so vanilla to me. fellaini creates havoc, matic provides stability, pogba is an artist. what is herrera's dominant trait? he's ok across the board but that's about it.
Fellaini creates havoc for our creativity and ability to pass and keep the ball, yes. It is not a trait to be encouraged though.
Herrera gives his all for this team. To say he is 'okay' at everything is just wrong. Nobody closes down on players in our team like he does....his stats for tackling and interceptions were insane last year. He does what is asked of him...remember his man-to-man job he was asked to do on Hazard...it was unreal...he even scored a goal that game. Conntrary to what many of you think, he is also a very good attacking player, when given the chance to go forward....just look at his fabulous cross to Ibra to win us the cup last season, and probably the assist of the season...when he curled the ball around the defence with the outside of his boot to put Rashford through to score. He's also a leader on the pitch. Case closed.
Don't think anyone is writing Herrera off (and if anyone actually does, they need to have themselves checked). It's a long season season ahead, with many games, competitions we'll take part in. We'll see plenty of different setups as well. In the Herrera is another option (an important one) available to Jose. There is little, to no doubt at all we'll see plenty of him this season.
This was vintage 14-15 Matic. Great feeling where we can afford to keep Herrera on the bench. Midfield looks like a huge strength this season for for us.
"Herrera's decent from future captain to shit was swift and sudden" Manchester United 2017-2018 Season Review Nah, get what everyone is saying and Matic really did shine today. But the season is a long one and with Champions League football on the docket, he will be ready to play an extremely important role in the future.
You know what 2 words I didn't miss today? "Wayne Rooney" It's going to be a good year...........................
Besides, why is being an all-rounder a negative in the area of the pitch where being able to contribute to multiple phases of play is most important? This is football, not Street Fighter.
Against the top teams that play a midfield 3 we will have to match them, which is where Herrera is a necessity - if we field a double-pivot they will just pass in triangles around us. Against teams that bunker, then like today we are probably best playing a #10/SS and attacking which means a double-pivot if we keep a back four. This will limit Herrera playing time. With Champions League games and games against the top 7 etc Herrera will see plenty of playing time (if he signs his contract).
What was evident on today's display was the team's strength and power (especially in midfield). And it really increased as the game went on. We've got different options in midfield and upfront (centrally and on the left) And while Mata did what he does from the "right" and contributed immensely in terms of the teams' offensive rythmn, if we can find another option there (with someone who can stick more to that side of the pitch), things could shape up very well for the team this year. Could hardly ask for a better start and there's reason to be optimistic.
Haha I've posted this play several times on here and that's immediately what came to mind. The boy really has come back rejuvenated. More of Rashford, Martial, and Lukaku please. Pogba pushing forward with Ander and Matic sitting behind.
Thierry Henry on United's attack following today's win. www.skysports.com/football/news/31969/10987528/thierry-henry-praises-romelu-lukaku-and-manchester-uniteds-forwards-after-west-ham-win Not mincing words/shy with the praise. It means something coming from him.
It has become a norm on here and among-st many United fans. One performance by someone can have you retired like those Nokia 1100 cell phones. Imagine Herrera had such a good season for us which saw him won player of the year. Now after one game by Matic all that is lost. Reminds me of how Rent Boys fans treated Mata #Pathetic
Some interesting words from Gary Neville who said that looking at United's squad, it's probably looking like a team that people are not going to want to play. He may be on to something when we look at the depth we have. And we still have Shaw, Rojo (and perhaps Zlatan to come down the line), who can all make us that much stronger this season.
