Point blank, straight at the keeper. Props to Ederson for taking it for the team, but the ball was straight at him. Extremely poor by Lukaku.
This is painful. No Pogs, did not help but this has just been mediocre from everyone, starting with Jose. And Lukaku needs to be taken out of the line of fire for a couple of games. This playing him continuously until he gets his form back is not working. Very clearly.
If we're being honest, it's not just today. Today has just been the continuation of a month long situation with him.
We begin with the premise that City are simply better than we are, even when we have Pogba. But once you get past that you have to lay this one on Jose, who should have listened to Ashur. And please, can we please bench Lukaku for a few games?
Pretty pathetic that Lukaku and Ibra haven't one a single header on these long balls. Not one. Getting outjumped by little Otamendi. Title race over. Pathetic effort, tactics, defending, and finishing.
To reiterate, if they're simply better than us, even with Pogba......then stop there. Trying to take a cut at Jose at the same time, doesn't make sense.
Yes but other times I felt the team played poor or lack of service. Today, we needed him to step up big with no Pogba and he missed his chances not to mention that colossal ********-up at the back.
Even JamesA would have to agree that the prem trophy is now in the hands in Manchester City. Not literally, of course, but no one is going to catch them. A second place prem finish, a CL semifinal appearance, an FA Cup will do.
Nah, Lukaku is no Obertan. He hit a bad patch about two months ago. When I mentioned this 4-5 games into his run of poor form a couple of jackasses here (not you) jumped all over for me it. But now that it's been a dozen games they've finally realized Lukaku has been poor. But Lukaku really is a decent striker. He just needs some rest, mental as well as physical, before he can find his form again.
The way we conceded both goals is simply unacceptable. Lukaku needs to gtfo here. He's not good enough.
well we had all summer to get the likes of Weigl, Keita, Dahoud, Tolisso etc. in as midfield reinforcements as well as someone who could link midfield and attack. instead we only got a chelsea castoff in Matić and with a bit of bad luck with Carrick and an out of form Herrera this is what we get. i think Mourinho wanted to attack them with 4-2-3-1 and that's fine but at times it was 2 v 4 in midfield with our only help there being McTominay. this is where we are now. we can't freely impose our game on any opposition at home. that said two horror moments on set pieces and we lose. yet again, where is this supposed height advantage that we have? in either box? it has yet to materialise
Tbf, I mentioned resting him and Matic at least a month back and I was also shouted down because they are professionals and it is not even a third of the way into the season.
His performance was abject today, but it does not erase a series of mediocre ones after his fast start. As I've always maintained, I don't doubt for a moment that he'll score goals for us in the end. But his poor technical ability, his droughts that can extend for longer than required and the fact if he does not score, he becomes pretty limited are all things that were talked about this summer and some of us were afraid of and why we thought Morata was the better option. And we're seeing it with Chesea: even when he's not scoring, his all around play and overall contributions are exceeding what we're seeing from Lukaku. It's the sad reality and for his sake, Jose needs to get him off for at least a couple of games. If for no other reason to give him something to think about (that he will get benched if his play is not up to scratch) and get his hunger back. There are alternatives we can go with (Zlatan or Rashford for starters).
