Another good cross from James on the right (who has put a few good ones today) to give a sitter to Rashford, who misses badly. Should have been 4. Lingard coming for AP: a good game after his B'mouth horror show.
Great work from Martial for Williams, but Ryan does well to stop it. James now with a great chance of his own. Great stuff from the boys (Martial is so instrumental to our attacking play). But Ryan has been equal to it however, having a big game and keeping Brighton in it.
so misses and defensive lapse aside the tempo is good and the team are alert. i like this performance. with Martial we are a lot better at creating and look like we can score more than 1a game which we'll need to since we don't keep clean sheets. pleased with this. hope it's not a flash in the pan
Fred has been really tidy today. none of the usual sloppy giveaways. good to see. odd double change now of Rojo and Greenwood with 3 mins to go but..
We need one experienced forward. Not to replace anyone, but because these young guys are too wasteful. Not just with the actual finishes, but with decision making. This 2nd half Brighton have left tons of space and we are making bad decisions. Not passing on time, running into double teams. We really should have smashed our last two opponents.
A vastly improved performance but there's still plenty of room for improvement, particularly in our finishing and set piece defending.
rashford is just not that good. if we do get sancho, i'd stick him on the right and move james on the left.
Rashford works well with Martial: does tons of work at the service of the team and is a threat. Does need to improve on his finishing though.
Don't like to see this from McTominay: at least he won't be going on intl duty with Scotland and hopefully he can rest and get fit over the next 2wks. FT: 3-1. A good day at the office for the boys and what they needed before the break. Pity about the clean sheet, McTominay and the missed chances but we've seen some progress in our overall play and along with the 3pts, that is what matters the most for now. Building blocks.
We're still below xG but at least our xG is well up on what it was. We looked excellent today. We were so much more vertical and we trusted ourselves to get our touch right and move forward. Considering 2 of our goals came in the first half and looking at the data in the below, we were really wasteful in the 2nd half. If our confidence was higher to begin and this was pure complacency with I'd put the boot in, but right now it's too brittle. Take the win, praise the team, and then tell your front line that you want to see them build on it by being more clinical. https://understat.com/match/11761
Williams is putting Shaw on notice. I love the way Dan James is always looking up when he gets the ball. So refreshing to see.
Shaw's leash is definitely shortened. I imagine that once he's ready he'll be the first call at the LB spot (as it should be for now). And hopefully, Williams can be the incentive for him to pick his game even more. If not, Williams is waiting. But let's hope that at that position when everyone is fit, it means Shaw and Williams, with AY out of the picture and Wan-Bissaka's replacement until Dalot returns that is.
