Onlywatch the first half of the Tottenham game looking forward to watching the second half later today. Happy with that resultand actually looking forward to this game against City.
United's provisional squad: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Axel Tuanzebe, Luke Shaw, AY, Brandon Williams, Fred, AP, James Garner, Scott McTominay, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford
Any result here would be a huge positive. Not expecting much but I hope we at least go out and attack them.
Martial starting is interesting, after Ole's comments about him just a few days ago: let's hope he's 100% (or at least, not a serious injury risk) for this one. But this is the pretty much the lineup we would have hoped for. Would have probably gone for Williams at LB, but I suppose we should be thankful that Ole didn't go with AY again. Fingers crossed Shaw can put in a solid performance today. City's XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Fernandinho, Angelino, Rodri, D. Silva, KdB, Bernardo, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus
That was a good chance for James, who shoots straight at Ederson. Fast start from both teams, going end to end at a high pace. Lingard now with a good look at goal: his shot is too tame though.
Huge block from Lindelöf, right in front of goal. Never a handball either: just excellent defending. Martial now with a chance of his own: they've had some good looks so far. Good start.
That should be a pk for United for a Benardo foul on Rashford. And VAR gives it. Rashford takes it and United are ahead! 0-1. Well deserved too. Another super counter from United, with Fred laying a great ball for Rash and he makes a mess of it. And another one with Rash now hitting the bar. Easily could/should have been 0-2 up.
Martial!!! 0-2. Yes! United's counter attacking game is absolutely on point today, cutting City's D almost at will.
HT: 0-2, although it could have been more. Only halfway there though, but more of the same in the upcoming period. Love this from Rio! Ohmyyyyyy!!!!0-2 @ManUtd The kids are on 🔥🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/VoSiTRB9IV— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) December 7, 2019
Ole is making me eat my words today. He got the tactics spot on. The test will be how we counter after half when Pep inevitably switches things up. Sucks that we couldn’t finish some other chances. 2-0 lead is a dangerous score. 3-0 is a morale killer. And wow are Rash and Fred in the form of their lives. Both look world class right now. That’s a huge difference from a month ago when Fred didn’t even look United quality.
I desperately hope we can pull this off. Ole needs to get on the team's ass during halftime. This could be the result that propels us into top 4 contention and salvages the season.
City look absolutely terrified of our pace. They’re sitting so far off our front 3. We need to come out firing at half. The first 15 will be huge. If we sit back and let City establish possession this could turn around quickly. But if we attack and put them on their heels (or get a 3rd) they might crumble.
