Press conference updates. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/man-utd-press-conference-live-13788692 Good news on the Rashford front at least. Martial should start this one nonetheless.
A good game for McTominay. Hopefully he at least gets some time as a sub. I wouldn't be opposed to starting him with Herrera though. The team really picks itself given injuries but it would be nice if we could boost the squad by giving Shaw a run out. I know Shaw hasn't played well for the reserves but if we could play Shaw at LB, we could try to use Blind at CM awhile keeping a FB on the bench in case of injuries. I'm not a huge fan of Blind at CM, but we need to spell Matic before he breaks down.
The case to play Blind in midfield was valid enough before, but is virtually a no-brainer now with our current injury situation. There's really no one to give Matic the break he needs (Herrera would be the guy, but he's required next to him). Blind could do the job, especially vs an opponent like Huddersfield (and vs Swansea in the upcoming League Cup game). Would still be a miracle if Jose caved in and went for it. The team I'd go for tomorrow would be: Dave Valencia. Jones. Lindelof. AY Herrera. Blind Lingard. Mata. Martial Lukaku What we'll probably see is Matic paired with Herrera in CM. There's an outside chance this could be the front 4 we go with, but I still think Jose may elect to go with Mata on the right and Miki centrally. Not sure he'd trust Lindelof yet for Prem duty, so Smalling starting next to Jones would not be a stretch.
Knowing Mourinho he'll go like this: De Gea Valencia Lindelof Jones Young Matic Herrera Mata Mkhi Martial Lukaku What is the hype for McTominay? He doesn't look good at all, and fills up a spot.
Mounie looks ready to return for Huddersfield. www.examiner.co.uk/sport/football/news/record-signing-steve-mounie-back-13789527
The squad for tomorrow: Dave, Romero, JP, Lindelof, Smalling, Jones, Valencia, Darmian, Blind, AY, Tuanzebe, McTominay, Herrera, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Martial, Rashford, Lukaku
It's possible, although that is MEN's report based on the players arriving at the Lowry. And Miki lives there so perhaps that's why he was not spotted and listed with the others. As noted on my team however, I would like to see him get a rest for this game and go with Lingard out right and Mata at the 10 spot, to mix things up a bit. Especially with Miki looking pretty poor recently.
It's either him or recall AP from his loan. He's just there for cover in case of another injury or if we get up big.
Previews for tomorrow's game. www.bbc.com/sport/football/41618803 www.skysports.com/football/huddsfld-vs-man-utd/preview/373179 United have been in a mini rut of sorts since the intl break and Huddersfield is as good an opponent to get out of it. Bottom line, no excuses are acceptable (our own injuries, their top striker returning, among others): there is still more than enough quality to get a decisive win.
Miki is fit and available for the Huddersfeld game. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-henrikh-mkhitaryan-13792796 A relief I suppose that he's not hurt, but whether it's the heavy workload or something else, he simply has not been in form lately and for that reason alone, having him sit this one out today, would not be the worst idea.
TEAM NEWS: #htafc’s starting line-up: Lössl; Löwe, Schindler, Zanka, Smith; Hogg, Williams; Ince, Mooy, Kachunga; Depoitre (AT)— Huddersfield Town (@htafc) October 21, 2017
Overdue? Seriously? What a dumb comment. He has only gone two games without scoring and in those two games he's only had one shot. We all knew coming in that he doesn't create goals, so with out service what is he supposed to do?
That lineup should be enough for a win but it will probably be ugly. Mata and Lingard in the same lineup is a whole lot of useless on the field at the same time.
