Pogba starting with every other nailed on starter rotated. I assume that means he is playing for his spot on Saturday (as is Herrera quite possibly). Happy to see Martial get a start. Would really love to see him send a message, although a sulky performance is unfortunately maybe more his style.
- do we live in a world where smalling is our #1 cb? - i'm also starting to think that bailly is not actually being rested... he's had a couple so-so games but he's still united's best cb by a country mile. - the message to mata and valencia is loud and clear.
the first teamers being rested are on the bench, not in the stands: matic, lukaku, alexis, young and possibly bailly.
Mou left himself a lot of wriggle room with his words. Mata and Lindelof are likely on the naughty step after their performances at the weekend. Valencia though is a Mou favourite and would probably have to be get treatment from Eva or something to get dropped from the semi.
What message could he possbly send to Valencia? He's been sending him messages all year by not playing any other RB besides Young. He's been sending Darmiam a message as well, that he isnt good enough.
i think he's played valencia and young by default to a certain extent. he's been pretty consistent in the past few weeks in saying that he would like his full backs to be more adventurous, and every journalist has been briefed that united is in the market for a LB and a RB. it's just that he likes darmian, shaw and blind even less. i wouldn't be surprised if we did like city last year and get rid of all of our full backs and bring in two starters and a deputy.
Just interviewed Mou on BT Sport, basically said Matic is rested for the semi but that "some others" (didn't name them) are out for "different reasons". Pointed out that he was playing a lot of attackers in last game and was tempted to play Dwight Yorke (who was in the stands) Said tonight not about the semi and didn't mention the semi in his team talk (guess he wants players to focus on tonight).
Herrera's insistence on always going to ground even when he could easily play on costs us a FK. He can just play the ball but instead tries to draw a foul and gets whistled himself.
Two offsides already and both times the player who passed delayed the pass a little long. Looking dodgy down Darmians side a couple of times already.
Darmian looked good the first two games he played with us and hasn't come close to matching that level since.
