This whole farce was created by countries like Ireland voting to relax the eligibility rules so much. It was best when a competitive U21 cap tied a player to a country. Then a country could at least plan for the future and you would know intentions at an earlier stage. Now you either have to senior cap undeserving options just to tie them or risk losing them.

Grandparent rule needs to go !!

also look how Wales are calling up 16 / 17 year olds into their first team to cap tie them.
very crooked underhand strategy to build their depth pool..
picking players who havent even played first team football at top level .

I don't think there's much of a story. If he becomes good enough to guarantee himself a spot in the England squad he will declare for England, but if his career stalls and that looks unlikely then he will declare for Ireland further down the road. He's clearly an Englishman that prefers England.

At the end of the day nothing really happened except it seems that Rice wants to pick England, but will wait until the right time. That's at least what I took away from all of this.

    He was injured.

Anyway, Ebere Eze has been called up by England for U20 duty.

If he wants to play for England why hasn't he declared for you already . I think he is clearly confused and just doesn't know otherwise he would of made a decision by now.

You're clearly confused. You keep suggesting he's already made a decision.

    yeah I saw that.

tbh, I think it's ridiculous how that even happens. Do countries just write a player's name on the call up sheet without asking him? That's what it seems like with Nmecha.

so who will he play for both are at the same time? Germany U19 have a camp while England have 2 friendlies. He's still listed on the dfb site while the FA site mentions F.Nmecha as a newbie to the U19 which kind of sounds like he's going to play for England.

he played 3 U18 games with Germany only to later on play 3 U18 games with England. So it doesn't surprise me if he choose you guys.

Last time he played for Germany he was also selected for England and was on the FA website listing only for him to be * as withdrawn later, so who knows.

kid has to make a tough choice it's obvious both countries want to cap tie him. And U19 is the chance to do so, whoever he chooses he likely won't switch unless it's a senior NT call up. 00 are youth eligible until the 2023 U21 Euro, that's the next 5 years.

Paul Glatzel of Liverpool is currently where Nmecha was last season in the U18 as a 01 where there is nothing but friendlies.

I am not confused . Read the article below . O Neill states that all Declan's family want him to play for us . Its his stupid agent who want him to play for you. Declan's heart isn't in it for England . His head is telling him England but heart says Ireland .

    Go with your heart Declan.

He can't get an U21 call up because he's already played for Ireland's U21's which only leaves him with the seniors. At this point he's probably patiently holding out for an England senior call up when the time comes. Could be sooner rather than later.

It's more romantic to go with your heart, but usually smarter to go with your head.

Sounds like a done deal then, don’t know what you lot are worried about since his family seem to be making this decision for him regardless of what he himself wants. Cant say that I would ever do that to my kid in that situation, who is a duel himself.

Is Rice the next Roy Keane? No.

Is he better than Eric Dier in defensive midfield? Probably. He’s certainly more mobile, moves the call faster and he’s 19.

That’s enough for me to want him in the squad.
