These players families will probably have come to England to escape Nigeria. Why on earth would they want to play for Nigeria?
It's going to be difficult to argue that they're more Nigerian than English when they're born and raised in England and the English football system and often have no contact with Nigeria at all beyond a parent or two. The only reason most of them play for Nigeria at all is because the NIgerian FA approaches them when they're young and offers them international football before England does.
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-broms-rising-star-tyler-13787246 Roberts has been with Wales for ages, so it's no news in and of itself, but the sentiment that Coleman could look to refresh his squad with younger players could lead to a few interesting decisions for some dual-nationality youngsters.
Some proposed changes to eligibility rules that FIFA is supposedly considering: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-s...into-changing-nationality-rules-idUSKBN1CO31N "At present, players who have played a competitive international for one team cannot switch to another national side even when they hold dual nationality. The Cape Verde football federation has proposed this rule be relaxed in cases where the player has played only one or two games for his original national side but has no realistic chance of a recall. "Players are only allowed to represent a country with which they have no blood connection if they have lived and played there for five years, but Montagliani said his committee would look into changing that period and possibly increasing it. "World soccer’s ruling body could also look into a compensation scheme in cases where a player goes through the training system of one country and represents it a youth level before switching to another." First one would obviously thin our pool and be unlikely to help us at all. Depending on how it's formulated, it could lead to situations where bigger countries felt compelled to give fringe players one cap every year or two just to give a spurious impression of involvement and prevent switching, which wouldn't help anyone. The second rule wouldn't affect us too much but I'm not sure it's necessary - five years is quite a while for a "ringer" to wait out. The third one is expressed in a slightly odd way too - how much of a player's development is due to their involvement in a country's youth teams? To give an example, we'd have ended up paying compensation for a player like Michael Keane, who was raised and developed entirely in England, at English clubs and within English communities. It almost sounds like you'd be handing an extra incentive to prey on tenuously connected young dual nationals; even if they didn't stick around, you'd get a pay-off. Sorry to be negative, but I don't like any of these ideas.
Well our strength is that we have plenty of money, so something like that third one would more likely work in our favour when the Welsh or Nigerian FA's have to pay us money for the players they poach. They'd probably have to think twice about it.
Only if we call them up first, and getting there first is practically the Welsh definition of "nationality" these days. It could block Nigeria though, you're right.
Not sure I like those proposals to be honest, don't think the rules need relaxing, they need tightening up, International football is already a joke to most people and under these changes you basically have a transfer system of some kind which will just get ridiculed. Well at least Nigeria could buy Gabby Agbonlahor, then we could buy Lewis Holby
(No quotes, so I'm just presenting this for you to make your own judgement - I don't know whether it's significant or not) Tammy Abraham to reject Nigeria for England exclusive Matt Hughes, Deputy Football Correspondent October 31 2017, 12:01am, The Times Abraham has impressed for SwanseaDYLAN MARTINEZ/REUTERS Tammy Abraham has provided Gareth Southgate with a boost as he continues his preparations for next summer’s World Cup finals by declaring that he wants to play his senior international football for England. The Chelsea striker, who is enjoying a successful season on loan at Swansea City, is being courted by Nigeria, whom he is eligible to represent through his father, who was born in Warri, and is a childhood friend of the Nigerian Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick. Abraham held talks with Pinnick about a potential change of allegiance in September, but is understood to have told senior FA officials in the past few weeks that he remains committed to England. The 20-year-old has won 13 caps for England Under-21 and is targeting a step up to the senior side rather than pursuing a switch to Nigeria, for whom he will be eligible until he wins a senior England cap. Southgate watched Abraham play for Swansea last Saturday away to Arsenal, where he created the visitors’ opening goal for Sam Clucas and had a ‘goal’ ruled out for offside, and the manager is considering naming him in his squad to play Germany and Brazil next month. Since joining Swansea in the summer he has scored four Premier League goals in nine starts, a figure all the more impressive given his loan club have scored only seven goals in total. Southgate considers Abraham to be a potential World Cup bolter even if he does not make his next squad, which will be announced on Thursday. While Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford are certainties to travel to Russia and Jamie Vardy is likely to make it, one or two striking slots are up for grabs. Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck’s repeated injury problems may count against them, as may Jermain Defoe’s age as he approaches his 36th birthday. Abraham’s commitment is also a relief for the FA, which, despite the success of the age-group teams, has seen Nigeria pick off former England youth internationals such as Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Sone Aluko, Shola Ameobi and Ola Aina in recent years.
Just get him in for next friendlies and give him a game - he's basically earned a call up anyway and will get there in time even if he isn't quite ready now. Would be monumentally stupid if he doesn't get a call up and at some point soon we lose him to nigeria
He should have been in the last squad. It wouldn't have even been a case of fast tracking because he deserved the place.
Yeah, really didn't agree to the call up of Defoe to the last squad as it was very short sighted by Southgate and the FA. Defoe is now 35 and is not one for the future, not even a necessity and more than likely won't be in the World Cup Squad, was just a wasted spot when someone like Abraham could have been added just for the experience of being in and around the Squad even if he didn't actually get on. The U21's have more than enough options in attack to cover for him.
With the timing of this article coming out just a day or two before the next Squad is announced, it wouldn't surprise me if he's in the senior Squad named tomorrow or just a coincidence?

Everton teenager Beni Baningime says he has yet to decide whether to play for England or the Democratic Republic of Congo at international level. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41816728
Frankly I don't know either but Unsworth seems to rate him highly: he's started two of his three games in charge and came on as a half time sub in the other.
Seems he's been here since the age of two, so if he does turn out to be a good player then we might have a decent chance.
Beni Baningime impressed me tonight against Lyon, despite being beat 3-0. Everton's best player I thought.
Armstrong Okoflex won the Victory Shield with Eire last week. Scored in the final game to secure the tournament win. http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/ireland-u16-victory-shield-retained-after-scotland-win Doubt we will see him in the England u16 squad Juni spoke of.
Ireland called up Hogan from Villa... I doubt we would ever pick him , but just shows how they still use grandparent picks.
Ivory Coast miss the world cup. Zaha's career move looking good . no idea why they would hire Wilmots as a manager.

https://www.google.se/amp/www.teleg...-ampadu-will-commit-senior-international/amp/ I wonder if the Welsh are getting a bit worried behind the scenes or something. Feels like they are really issuing a rallying cry of they are ours, you can't take them. Personally would be surprised if they switched to us now though, just can't see it.
How do think they got those players to play for them? by telling them that they would be fast tracked into the first team and get a world cup place. They told this to naive kids who are like age 17. But they miss the world cup and now look like clowns.
