Chris willock teally has been doing solid work for benfica b. 11 goals and 5 assists in 30 games. Granted hell never be england quality as once hoped but i give him dues for not going out there and dissapearing into oblivion. Would be a decent championship player

Yeah, still got two seasons to play for the u21s and he's a summer away from possibly being in the Benfica squad.

Compare where he is at the same stage of his career to some players people like at the minute. Wan-Bissaka, Maddison, Barnes etc

 

I mean, its a fair point, and i would love to see him get there, but if i take that comparison, those guys are already doing the business in the premier league, which is a level above the portuguese league. Also, as an am/winger can we really see him displacing cho, sancho, rashford, nelson, who are of a similar age or younger? Id love to see him do great because hes a joy to watch but i guess my point was that i feel it is not very likely.

Why does Wikipedia say that Sancho has 18 assists in the Bundesliga this season?

Also what's the exact criteria for an assist?

Like if you hit the post and someone taps in the rebound does that count?

Or if you play someone in and their first shot is saved by the keeper but they score the rebound?

Or if you have a shot that a defender kicks into his own net for an own goal?

 

Good question. Depends on the statistician i suppose. Perhaps the best thing to do is compare assists from the same source. Opta has 3 different types of assist alone. Thier definition of a goal assist is:

The final touch (pass, pass-cum-shot or any other touch) leading to the recipient of the ball scoring a goal. If the final touch (as defined in bold) is deflected by an opposition player, the initiator is only given a goal assist if the receiving player was likely to receive the ball without the deflection having taken place. Own goals, directly taken free kicks, direct corner goals and penalties do not get an assist awarded.

 

Can you believe that Jack Rodwell is 28! Anyway, he’s being linked with a move to either Torino or Sassuolo.

 

The source they use is kicker. They probably include goals from penalties or free kicks won too etc.
