I'm not english but I am glad to hear Ashton is up there,,,, the guys one of the best young strikers in the world today, IMO.

Question: How good is dafoe,, I've seen him play a little, but he never impressed me much, perhaps I haven't seen him play enough.

p.s. this might sound bias since i love WHU, but Harewood has some major positioning and scores hard too,.......he's a monster, why shouldn't he be up there?

The top three are Rooney, Owen and Crouch without doubt. Owen at his best was better than Crouch but it depends how well he recovers from his injury.

After those three I'd have Jermain Defoe in 4th, then Ashton, Bent, Zamora, Johnson, Beattie and Walcott but I don't think any of those 6 are really international standard yet. ( or will ever be in some cases).

Leroy Lita could make the top 10, he is a natural goalscorer and still only 21.

If his development continues I hope he will get a chance, still early at the moment though. We need to develop better strikers after reading the top 10 list so far, it looks poor for the future! If only we could find 2 strikers that would compliment each other.

Your last sentence is the forgotten key. Though I may be in the highly berated and ridiculed minority de jour in thinking Rooney, even off form, always starts ahead of Crouch, I 'd rather see Rooney sit and Crouch start with Bent, or even with the incredibally ineffective DeFoe than Rooney and Crouch togeather

It is clear that Rooney and Crouch can not play togeather as either needs a fast frontman if England is to have any joy. Neither showed anything yesterday until Rooney sat, as they both like to play the same area, and Crouch showed a tiny tiny bit more. And Rooney playing the front striker is not his game and a waste of his talent.

I do think Lita is very promising as well

Rooney needs someone other than Crouch playing up front.. I will be soo happy when Mikey Owen is back to 100 percent, and playing up front with Rooney... They have had the best chemistry.. Rooney will not be benched for the likes of Crouch, Defoe, or Bent.. It's ludacris to think so...

That is basically exactly what I am saying, or was trying to. :D

Rooney should start but not with Crouch. Right now it should be with Bent or AJ if healthy, or even DeFoe not Crouch, until Owen is healthy again.

But I think I'd rather see Crouch, with Bent, AJ or even Defoe than the Rooney - Crouch pairing which just does not work and never likely to work.

When Ashton is healthy I would put him ahead to get a look to see if he can play at this level ahead of Defoe in the sentences above.

The interesting thing about the strikers mentioned here are many of them plied their trade outside the premiership recently AJ; Ashton; Bent; Lita; Zamora; Harewood; even Defoe made his name scoring freely on loan at Bournemouth, then for a struggling West Ham in the premiership before they got relegated to CCC, before being plucked by Spurs.

How many of these players have played for top clubs in the Premiership? Only Rooney, Defoe and Owen, and for Rooney and Defoe only in last 2 years. Ok sorry nearly forgot about Crouch.

Maybe English strikers are going to have to drop a division to get noticed first.

He's a forward, not quite a striker (drops a bit deeper) but he's not a midfielder either.

He's a playmaker but still classed as a striker in the same way Ronaldhino, Messi and Totti are.
