TAA and Gomez are starting and RLC, Solanke and Kent are on the bench for the PL Asia Trophy match between Liverpool and Palace. Leko and a few others have come on in the other game between Leicester and West Brom.
Joe Gomez is having a great game. Solid defending against Palace's strong attackers and incisive forward runs with the ball at feet.
Solanke with a well taken goal too. TAA is in a good position to stake a claim for that right back role.

A couple of places are now reporting that Southampton want to use their PL loan option to sign Patrick Roberts.
Yeah, Gomez was sound. I still can't tell, though, if he's got his pace back. Delightful goal from Solanke.

888398160195866625 is not a valid tweet id 'But Aidy Boothroyd’s side will be back on home soil four days later to take on Latvia at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium on Tuesday 5 September.' Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Oh Gawn!! That's just fine and dandy! My only surprise is that the FA haven't offered him a new contract with the promise to take over from Southgate when the time occurs.
It was an article confirming the venues for the upcoming U21 qualifiers. Two good selections to play at tbf - http://www.thefa.com/news/2017/jul/20/england-u21s-to-play-at-bournemouth-and-middlesbrough-210717
Maybe Boothroyd has gotten better as a manager. He did say that he's found a new love for the game or something like that by coaching England. I'm not a fan of him, but he did get us through the group and almost to the final of the U21 Euros. He does deserve a chance in all honesty because of that, but still I was hoping he'd take that other coaching offer. My main hope is that we'll go and destroy teams when we've gotten 2-0 leads instead of just backing off of them.
It was an easy group that we should have got out of nine times out of ten. After that it was one knock out game which we played OK in but still lost. Playing OK in a one game that we expected to lose is not a good enough reason to give someone a longer leash. As you point out his teams have a bad habit of backing off, if he'd closed out the Germany game then we're getting into the sort of territory where he deserves some credit.
To the eyes of the FA they probably think how can anybody complain?: - He got the U19s to the 2016 Euros and got to the semifinals. - He took over the U21s for Southgate and never lost a game to this point. - First time England have gotten out of the group stage since 2009. - Took Germany to penalties. Those are okay achievements, but what we're all pointing out is that his coaching style is bad, but the FA I'm guessing doesn't see it that way. Neither does most of the media, which is what the FA always responds to.
He's certainly not a disaster, but he should be under strict instruction to be braver next time around. That German defence was begging to be pressured.
We didn't really do anything as a team well in that whole tournament in my view and in the first game particularly it looked like the players didn't know what our plans were. The team also looked exhausted pretty early in games. Within all the other groups there were issues you could disagree with (selection, tactics etc) but you could see pretty significant changes to the actual approach. It was just more structured and professional compared to the past. With Boothroyd though it's just not up to the same standard. So he should be booted but that isnt going to happen. I guess in theory more positive work at younger levels has been done with the new batch and the experience they have gained should show when they start playing U21 level together. That has to be a positive and should negate some of Boothroyd's flaws.
Hinds scored another goal for Wolfsburg today. I know it's only freindlys but he seems to have made a positive start to life in Germany.
Good to see him doing well. I always thought he looked impressive for our under-16s and under-17s, but then he just disappeared from the England scene. Perhaps if he has a decent season he could make it to Toulon next summer and take it from there.
