ENGLAND U19S BOSS PAUL SIMPSON HOPING TO PICK STRONGEST SQUAD FOR JULY'S EURO FINALS Tuesday 05 Jun 2018 0 Shares Paul Simpson believes his U19s have a chance of Euro glory in Finland should he be able to pick a full-strength squad England U19s boss Paul Simpson is hoping he can call upon his strongest squad for this summer’s Euro Finals. The Young Lions head to Finland in July with the aim of defending their title, following last summer’s success in Georgia when Keith Downing’s side won the competition in a year which saw England dominate at development level. UEFA European U19 Championship The Finals 16-29 July 2018 Finland And after last week’s draw in Vaasa saw England placed in Group B alongside Turkey, Ukraine and France, head coach Simpson is keen for the momentum of 2017 to continue this term. “We know that if we have our strongest squad available for the tournament then we can definitely challenge for the trophy,” revealed Simpson, who led the U20s to the World Cup title last June. “We want to carry on the good work, with this group, that has been taking place across all of England’s development teams and hope the clubs help us in that by supporting the players in participating. “This tournament is also our route to qualify for the 2019 U20s World Cup. “If we want to do ourselves justice and give ourselves the best chance of qualifying, we need the strongest squad available. “We all saw what winning last year’s U20 World Cup did for the players, how it progressed their careers and developed them individually, which the clubs have definitely benefited from as well. “There is nothing like tournament football to show players just what it takes to win and we’re looking forward to showing what we can do come the Euros this summer.” Last year's squad won the U19s Euros in Georgia and Simpson has high hopes of helping retain the title in 2018 After coming through two qualifying stages to confirm their place in the last eight of this season’s Euros, Simpson and his players recently enjoyed a training camp ahead of the Finals. And with the likes of Italy, Portugal, Norway and host nation Finland in the other group, the head coach always knew his charges would face a tough test. “When you look at all of the teams that have qualified, we knew that there wasn’t going to be an easy draw,” he added. “We’re reasonably happy with who we have in the group. We don’t play France until the third game which is probably a good thing, as hopefully we’ll have hit our stride by then. “They’re the toughest test on paper, but that’s not being disrespectful to Turkey and Ukraine who are also good teams. “We need to make sure we prepare for each game properly and get ourselves in a decent position for the France game, and take it from there. “Now we know who we’re facing, myself and the staff will be full steam ahead on preparing for all of the games and all of the opposition.”
Slightly odd selection of games. Every Finland match and every France match is on TV, so the other six sides only get one each. I assume France is because Eurosport, but Finland may be just because they're hosting?
Yeah logistically it’s likely that it is set up for the hosts to be filming their games. Hopefully highlights are available at least.
This could have gone in the players abroad thread, but whatever. http://www.football-oranje.com/van-hintum-no-ajax-midfielder-is-better-than-mount/
Speculation regarding a loan move for Foden to West Ham. As a Hammer I'm not seeing this. Foden more likely to get game-time at man city given their involvement in 4 competitions and Guardiola's support. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/06/1...facing-competition-from-barcelona-for-phil-f/
I think there is obviously nothing in it. Foden will stay at City. HITC is not a reliable source anyway.
Would be a good first move for Dujon Chelsea are set to send starlet Dujon Sterling out on loan to L1 Coventry. See @MirrorFootball live blog #CCFC #CFC https://t.co/dNLvK6AjjT— James Nursey (@JamesNursey) June 18, 2018
Good idea. Sterling needs to up his game - and has done for years. It's all been a bit too comfortable.
Not sure I would give this much credit as City watch say Pep has no intention of letting Foden go out on loan but MEN think it’s on 1010087899793063936 is not a valid tweet id
I'd be concerned Foden might get trampled underfoot. If City can accommodate him adequately while he "develops" a bit he might be better staying put at City. He could find it too tough out there at this point.
Yep, I fear other teams will just target him and ruff him up a bit and not sure he will benefit from a move to the Championship at this point in his development. Would rather see him go to the Bundesliga if he was to be loaned out tbh.
Trevoh Chalobah to ITFC https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/33853/town-targeting-chelseas-chalobah Guy who runs this site, who is well informed seems to think this is very close - TC was at the club on Tuesday to meet manager etc. Just need to tie up loose ends
Saw a reporter for the MEN on twitter commenting on City Watch basically saying wait and see then in response to them saying Pep will keep him at City next season. Can’t see him going anywhere myself fwiw.
Pep still seems to rate Foden very high. You'd think he'd give him more game time this season and hopefully he does.
Brennan? He was saying 'wait and see' to someone saying his original reporting was wrong. I wouldn't mind him spending a full season with Bielsa but i'd have little confidence in Bielsa even being there till Christmas, let alone till June.
I think that Bielsa was one of the coaches that inspired Pep and plays a kind of football that the bald one might see as one that will help Phil's development. That's why this rumour might have some credence. Although it could just be someone pulling it out of their backside after adding 2+2 like I just did.
