2014 came to mind, U17s won the lot, U19s had Baker, RLC, Ibe, Chambers, Josh Murphy, Galloway, Aina, Targett, Swift but lost out in stoppage time away to Ukraine in the last elite qualifier needing just a draw to qualify. An average German side ended up winning the whole thing, Kimmich and Brandt the standout names to come out of it since. Then there was last season soo, U19s lost the Final to Italy, U17s lost the Quarter Final to Spain in a pretty tight game overall and deserved better. That was a pretty good chance.
Actually we lost to Italy in the semifinals in the U19s. Besides that, good memory. I remember the loss to Ukraine was heartbreaking and it was such a crap, unjust way to lose. I think our keeper made a close range save but the rebound hit off of Chambers and into the goal. Right after that Baker hit the post from a free kick. This feels great to advance so early and we'll probably be strong favorites if we keep up this form. I can't see how the U20's or 21's will need any of these players except maybe the U17s for Sessegnon.
Forest fan Garibaldi11 from on here retweeted it and must get followed by the Forest guys doing the feed on that site.
I think Sessegnon will be U19s only now because the U17 Euros starts before the Fulham season is even over. I'm a little worried someone might try to steal TAA + Davies to play in the U20 WC or to sit on the bench for the U21s. The U21s don't have that many right backs that they seem super invested in. Then as always this U20 World Cup is just lingering with so many questions about squad selection. Toulon is going to have a really funny squad though. Will surely just be a whole squad of new names.
apparently we let them all of the ball and made the most of our chances. in hindsight I can't argue, it was the good option. But if we want to win the tournament I maintain that we will have to play more flair players
I really enjoy watching Edwards and especially Willock, but it's hard to quibble with the approach when we beat Spain 3–0 in a crucial game. What a result!
I don't think people should overreact here. Edwards and Willock are obviously still well in their plans. Both will probably start and shine v Belarus. It's a great problem to have going forward.
Cracking goal from Chris Willock to seal our #U19EURO qualification earlier! 🙌#younglions https://t.co/rsoQt3MVwF— England (@England) March 24, 2017
Already qualified, our #YoungLions complete their Euro U19 Elite Round Qualification campaign this afternoon. Here's how they lineup v 🇧🇾 pic.twitter.com/LYo9K3ahyO— England (@England) March 27, 2017
Davies not even on the bench. Hopefully they've just let him go home to rest and he hasn't picked up an injury.
Well I might as well carry on for those that maybe can't get up to date scores 4-1 now, Willock with the goal, assist from Edwards
We'll most likely finish with the most goals and best goal difference in the elite round. Don't think any of us saw this coming because of the past results with this age group. Hopefully we have nearly the same squad for the tournament this summer.
People will be aware there are plenty good quality players in there but as you suggested you can never be sure until they actually do the business (good previous form obviously raises hopes). Let's hope they carry on in the same vein at the finals.
