There's a decent chance. Gomes, Garner and Chong are the three in the 23s that I believe United feel are the most talented. Greenwood & Laird in the 18s. There's also Lee O'Connor and Toure that are very good too. RoShaun Williams who played for England a few times has completely fallen off though.
Mason Greenwood with two beauties today + two assists. United really need to step him up as the 18s is far too easy for him. WBA 3 - 4 Manchester United U18 (Mason Greenwood X2, Aliou Traore & Brandon Williams) #MUFC pic.twitter.com/PaKIcJyzNe— Fabio (@FabioProd) September 22, 2018
Mason Greenwood was the best player on the pitch today. I can see him moving through the age groups super quickly.
I thought Laird was very good. Not a flashy player, but he just seems to do everything right. He's so tidy, and he's an impressive athlete too.
The squad Goalkeepers: Luca Ashby-Hammond (Fulham), Marcus Dewhurst (Sheffield United), Arthur Okonkwo (Arsenal) Defenders: Ajibola Alese (West Ham United), Vontae Daley-Campbell (Arsenal), Pascal Kpohomouh (Southampton), Ethan Laird (Manchester United), Nathaniel Ogbeta (Manchester City), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Midfielders: Faustino Anjorin (Chelsea), Arvin Appiah (Nottingham Forest), James Garner (Manchester United), Anthony Gordon (Everton), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Bali Mumba (Sunderland), Keyendrah Simmonds (Manchester City) Forwards: Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), Tyreece John-Jules (Arsenal)
Wonder if Tottenham's Harvey White will get a look at some point, has been quite impressive from the bits I've seen of him, and the squad could do with a player of his type deeper in midfield. Lovely technique about him.
Ellis Simms definitely. Big fan of his and he's had a great start to the season. Perhaps his former City teammate Ed Elewa-Ikpakwu (Leicester) might have a chance to be involved too if he can get hold down a place there, would like to see him involved.
He has been quality in the games I've seen recently. Set pieces, vision and his passing has been brilliant. And versatile. Tbf a few I think deserve a look-in, Maghoma, Bowden and Markanday have also started the season well, with Maghoma mainly playing u23s
Behind closed doors at SGP bar invited guests. Chance of getting updates during the game probably minimal. Appiah is #7
Ashby-Hammond, Laird, Saka, Garner, Kpohomouh, Alese, Appiah, Anjorin, Greenwood, Jones, John-Jules. https://www.svenskfotboll.se/matchfakta/england-sverige-landskamper-herr-ungdom/3855137/
4-0 Anjorin John-Jules Appiah Laird Hopefully Laird didn't break his ankle. One of my favs. Love a rolls royce defender.
I presume that was a joke about a tackle he made or that he just took a knock. Would be pretty casual for him to just be chilling in the changing room if he had.
Hopefully get to see the penultimate goal from Appiah as it was apparently a great strike. Just reading the match report from their site, Swedish coach very complimentary.
What do people think Laird's ultimate position will be? He's not the tallest, so perhaps right-back or defensive midfield is more likely than centre-back at senior level? That aside, he seems to have the skills for any of those positions.
Got the same concerns, without really having an answer. I'm not sure if he's grown recently, but he's slightly taller than I gave him credit for, but still probably no way near tall enough to play CB. It's complicated cause it doesn't seem like many of our underage defenders are 6ft plus.
I wouldn't necessarily say that I was concerned because he looks a good fit at right-back, and 5'9" or 5'10" (according to Transfermarkt, but it looks about right to me) is tall enough for a full-back. Man Utd refer to him as a full-back on their site too. I do wonder what the point is in England picking him at centre-back if that's unlikely to be his position though, so I'm glad to see him apparently playing at right-back in this last game.
For anyone who's still putting a few names to faces (as I am), that's: Garner, Ashby-Hammond, Alese, Kpohomouh, Saka, Appiah, John-Jules, Anjorin, Laird, Jones, Greenwood. I think.
Also some very positive thoughts from Swedish manager as Slater mentions. https://www.svenskfotboll.se/nyheter/landslag/2018/10/p17-england/
