Some very good ex defenders have said that he has the potential to be a world class CB ..... I used to agree but why on Earth is he still making so many poor decisions ?

Southgate will complain about the lack of games but he never uses these to test players properly. Why run Players into the ground two games running in 3 days and why not use this to start Maddison? It’s ridiculous and pathetic. Rice is just not a good player and as said above he is there to ‘provide protection’ as so many pundits say and seem to be obsessed about in this country, but that doesn’t work when you can’t pass, it makes it worse. Look who other countries have played in that position - Pirlo, Busquets, De Jong, etc etc players who can actually play!

Rice is not as good as dier. I dont see the need for him. We dont produce quality defensive midfielders any more. I would just go with the attacking quality midfielders we have. Grealish , maddison , foden, cheek. Winks can do a job at being a holding player but with the added ability to pass the ball

Also doubt maddison will even see one minute of this game. Same with tomori. Be the usual crap subs of mount and Wilson

Would it not be Sterling on the right, CHO on the left?

Have to say, I don't mind this side. It's no bad thing to find out whether Rice is improved by having someone like Winks alongside him. And as someone mentioned, the Maguire/Mings partnership looked good in its previous run-out, so it's worth giving it another shot. Seems like there are some worthwhile experiments in there.

I think we can safely disregard that, no?

I would hope so very much. Sounds ridiculous.

Southgate talking about "cementing" players when asked about the two full-backs playing consecutive games. Sounds like those spots are TAA's and Chilwell's to lose.

If we're playing with a holding pair again this could get messy, although I would trust Winks to play that position better than Henderson.

I don’t mind one of Rice or Henderson but both is criminal, and Winks simply has to start. I don’t mind the team but am very disappointed in Maddison being ignored, also it seems Mings is ahead of Tomori and I’m not sure I’m happy about that.

Hudson-Odoi has played a square ball to the opposition twice in about 15 minutes. He did the same thing a couple of times against Montenegro away too.

Liking Winks more and more these days ..

    I’d play 4:3:3 ..

Midfield of Winks / Grealish / Maddison

Yeah but not surprising to be honest. Ever since I’ve been living in Sweden I’ve met and worked with many Kosovan people who absolutely love England.

Midfield again. No control. Southgate's usual Achilles heel which is why we will nothing under him

Rice showing how scared he is to take the ball under pressure turn and play it forward. Almost landed Maguire in it.

Playing someone like Rice in the deepest midfield position makes it impossible to control anything

Exactly, once again why I keep asking for Foden to get promoted. Granted it’s a tough place to come but Southgate doesn’t seem to learn. He will play Henderson-Rice in a KO match and we will have rings run around us
