The 37 players to play for England starting from the first game of Euro 2016 qualifying up until now -

Goalkeepers - 3 (Hart, Forster, Butland)

Defenders - 12 (Stones, Cahill, Jones, Baines, Jagielka, Chambers, Gibbs, Clyne, Smalling, Shaw, Bertrand, Walker)

Midfielders - 14 (Wilshere, Henderson, Delph, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Townsend, Downing, Barkley, Carrick, Mason, Shelvey, Dier, Alli)

Forwards - 8 (Rooney, Welbeck, Sterling, Lambert, Walcott, Kane, Vardy, Ings)

Strange to look back and think that Danny Sturridge has not played any part in qualifying. Tom Cleverley, Danny Rose, Jesse Lingard, Rob Green and Tom Heaton are others to have been called up but not been capped in that time.

We have a fantastic set of strikers at the moment..

    Kane
    Sturridge
    Vardy
    Welbeck
    Rooney
    Walcott

And then there is Ings, Berahino, Carroll as back up. We probably have the best depth of strikers of any country going to Euro 2016, we must make that count

This is only including those who've been called up for qualifiers in that period though, right? Otherwise there are some missing from your list, e.g. Ben Foster was called up for the Scotland friendly in November 2014.

Re-read the post I responded to. He was talking about players who had been "called up but not been capped".

Sorry I wasn't listing all uncapped options. I was only going off scanning Wikipedia for those uncapped options and Foster had been taken off the Wiki page. Berahino and Austin are others called up but uncapped in that time. Not certain of full uncapped list.

Right, got it. In any case I think you've named them all now - Colback was also called up for the Norway friendly, but that pre-dated the first qualifier by a few days.

Yeah I'd have to agree that we have the best striking options out of all the teams. Belgium's and Frances are pretty good too. There's also Germany and Spain but they don't usually use strikers that much in their systems.

    THIS.

England have better marksmen in numbers, but the quality of Germany's, Spain's and Belgium's are more fluid than the 3 lions.

England need to work on the midfield's strength in DM, CM & CAM, to usher the play to the forwards and create chances. Sadly outside Sterling and Barkley, the rest are average.

I wouldn't say that Henderson, Delph, and Wilshere are average (you're implying that), in fact on good days they can be brilliant.

They're very average compared to what the best nations have I think. Henderson and Delph would have no Spain caps to their name if they were Spanish, for example.

Not many players of English origin would ever of had caps for Spain in the last ten years

You're right about that. From 2007 to 2014 basically. Only Gerrard, Cole, Rooney, and Lampard. Well then Rio and JT as defenders.

Gerrard n lampard wouldn't of got a sniff over iniesta, xavi and busquets though in the starting lineup

Rooney might at his peak, agree on Rio and cole but not terry imo

Gerrard from 2004-2010 was clearly better than Busquets and would've challenged him in 2012. I agree that Lampard would not've started over Iniesta and Xavi.

Setting aside the fact Gerrard wouldn't start for Spain because of their tactical set up, to suggest he'd displace Busquets is absurd.
