http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1614...ght-paul-arriola-already-making-noise-in-liga That fearlessness has shone through in Arriola’s first pro season and his early success has already to questions about his national team future. A starter on the 2011 U.S. Under-17 World Cup team, Arriola has represented the USA on every level, and even though he could play for Mexico due to his family roots (and Mexican passport he obtained through his great grandfather’s Mexican nationality), Arriola is very much a U.S. player. Goal.com is hit-or-miss, but it is an Ives G. article. Here's LA Galaxy with a quote from the man himself: Arriola is leaving the door open regarding his future, stating only that his goal is to become a professional. But he is in the process of obtaining his Mexican citizenship in case a move south is the right fit. “My great-grandparents on my father’s side were born in Mexico, so my grandfather will receive his citizenship in order to allow me to receive mine," he said. http://www.lagalaxy.com/news/2012/12/galaxy-academy-forward-paul-arriola-training-club-tijuana
But it isn't coming from his great-grandfather...its coming from his grand-father who is eligible who can then pass it to Arriola I presume...maybe we should move this stuff to the Arriola thread?
Remember FIFA rules talk about the birthplace. His grandfather wasn't born in Mexico, but his great-grandfather was. His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant Association;
I'm still waiting on seeing him play but I coach high school in the central Ohio area and have one of his national runner up Ohio Premier teammates at the school. From the times the teammate and I have spoke, Eman sounds like he's living up to the hype. On the first day that Div 1 coaches could speak to players he received countless scholarship offers. Also, he missed 3 weeks of the OP season this summer while trailing with Benfica. In regards to his high school team, he transferred this fall to Westerville South, a Div 1 (highest enrollment bracket in Ohio) school. They are currently 11-4-1 and the number 5 seed in the district tournament.
Here's an August interview with ED: http://www.soccerwire.com/news/socc...ach-mike-lawrence-and-striker-emmanuel-dapaa/
In the YNT forum, @JG reports that Dapaa is now playing as Emmanual Sabbi for Chicago Magic and the U.S. U18s: http://ussda.demosphere.com/teams/68797515/47187453-68797603/73624631.html http://www.ussoccer.com/players/2015/01/27/16/00/emmanuel-sabbi A (very) late '97. EDIT: And various reports have him going to Akron. He has another year of HS left I think.
Don't know what it means, but Sabbi's no longer on Akron's 2016 roster, and he recently updated his Twitter bio to remove "Akron Commit '16." Maybe a pro contract in the works? (He's been at a U20 camp these past few days.) https://twitter.com/emansabbi9 http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2016-17/roster http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...asking-ridge-for-training-camp-and-friendlies
Looking over old posts -- @CreightonMCFCjoey, are you sure he had an agent rather than, say, an adviser? Signing with an agent might have made it tough to attend Akron.
I suspect that Akron would not have announced him as a recruit if he had not been admitted, whatever his academic qualifications might have been, so this seems unlikely. And I say that while doing my very darndest to restrain myself from unleashing Mid-American Conference smack (as the graduate of a rival school, albeit one that no longer has men's soccer).
Looks like our U-20 player is heading to the Canary Islands and skipping out on Akron Emmanuel Sabbi will officially sign with Las Palmas in LaLiga today. Huge move for the #usynt player.— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) August 23, 2016
A link to his original thread where he was known as "Emmanuel Dapaa": http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/manchester-united-opportunity-for-emmanuel-dapaa.1996062/
La Liga club, which has Kevin Prince Boateng in its first team. Interesting move to be sure. http://www.udlaspalmas.es/equipo/plantilla/las-palmas
Says here he was born in Italy but grew up in the US. http://www.tintaamarilla.es/mobile/noticia.php?num=20927

Very interesting move that I love from a YA perspective. I haven't seen him a ton, but every time I have he's been the best athlete on the field.
Looks like this is a fansite reporting on the move: http://www.udlaspalmas.net/2016/08/...estadounidense-emmanuel-sabbi-para-su-filial/ Google Translate suggests Sabbi will play with the reserves this season as the first team has all of its nonEU spots filled.
Sabbi was born in Italy and has Ghanaian heritage - if he has a passport from either of those countries, he'd count as a domestic in Spain.
