You know I’m loving this. Gets another sniff with the national team setup. Is he Olympics eligible? https://prod-ussf-pdx-cd.azurewebsi...bined-preparation-camp-roster-to-begin-summer
Yeah but that only applies to if we qualify for the Olympics. Can't use overage players for qualifying. In any case God willing we qualify we sure as hell will have better overage options that him.

Who are you think of as better options? I'd take Steffen/Horvath and Brooks/Miazga. Based on Berhalters call ups, I dont see many good options. Of course there are players Berhalter hasnt called, but looking at the over age players on the current 40 man roster after a GK and CB, I'd only be interested in Holmes or Boyd. If EH can find playing time this year, I'd be happy with all over age players to be u25s. Atlanta? #ATLUTD, Hyndman discussing contract to join #MLS team. Deal isn't done, so keep that in mindhttps://t.co/6H8OOOr2E5— Doug Roberson (@DougRobersonAJC) June 27, 2019
The article says "Hyndman would likely provide cover for Darlington Nagbe and Julian Gressel in central midfield." Seems like he should be able to find an MLS team that would start him, no? Not sure this makes a ton of sense for him unless Atlanta is planning another move. Then again, moves that don't make any sense seem to be Hyndman's specialty. Unless it's a money thing...
Not what anyone here probably would have wanted but there are worse fates. Would be fun to see him actual playing again.
That's what I was thinking/hoping. Atlanta might see him as a younger, cheaper replacement for Nagbe.
Coming back to MLS would be a real shame. I am having a hard time seeing how the numbers work for all parties.
I've got a record of being extremely skeptical of Hyndman, but still: based on what? He was fine for Hibs, but not outstanding. That was 7 months ago, and he has 37 minutes of gametime since. Before that, he spent an entire season wasting away in the Bournemouth reserves. Then you're going back to the second half of 2016-17 to find a good series of performances for Rangers. That was two full years ago, and there's nothing in his record to indicate that he has progressed as a player (or, frankly, done anything but regress). His fitness is probably bad, his form worse. If this Atlanta move comes through (and I truly hope it does), he'll have a chance to build up his fitness at the USL level. Then, he can move up to the first team of an Atlanta side that dominates matches regularly, which will allow him to maximize his skillset. Are there teams where he could start regularly? Maybe. But they wouldn't be the best fit for him anyway because of the reasons above.
Not sure why his fitness would be bad. Perhaps his game fitness, but that is recovered quickly with a few games - and most players need to recover it at the end of a summer or other break. His overall fitness shouldn't be particularly poor. He was in regular training with B'mouth, played a bit... it's not like he's sitting on a beach drinking rum and will show up looking like Nick Nolte in north Dallas 40... I don't think fitness has ever been a top Hyndman issue. His form, we'll see, but he walked into the Rangers and Hibs loans without any regular b'mouth apps. I think you take the Gers and Hibs games, his few B'mouth apps. Watch them one after the other and that's what you're going to get. Seems to me he's a very consistent performer: Really decent as a circulating midfielder, a little too weak on D to be a top B2B/2Way, works best with players that like to play the ball on the ground and work the seams. I think any move that puts him where he might get a good bit of game and a chance to be a team leader is a good one. He'll sink or swim based on his skill set, which I think is pretty set at this point. His D and physicality can be improved, or he can find a team that plays him far enough forward to not worry. He seems very "Feilhaber after Derby" to me.
Guy has been rotting away on a bench after playing in Scotland for a team that would make the Chicago Fire look decent. He'll be lucky to become a rotation guy in Atlanta at this point.
Well they are just two different players. U.S. youth internationals have been released by "Big" European clubs in the past and come to MLS and succeeded (Lletget) some have had middling careers (Zizzo/Robbie Rogers) and many more have failed (Johann Smith, Ferrari, Danny Szetela) and some have proven to not even be good enough to get a shot in MLS (Arguez) *That's just guys from the 2007 U-20 World Cup off the top of my noggin. Who knows where Hyndman will fall on that list. It's a mixed bag but the reality of the situation is its not a happy ending for most guys.
Most of the failures are the ones who never got onto the field at all at a decent level..... Hyndman does at least have modicum of a track record. He has played first division matches, he has played for his EPL team...I think he'd stick in MLS....but it would be nice if that wasn't his path. I'm surprised he isn't trying to get out of the UK....with that Euro passport, he oughta have at least a few decent options on the Continent.....there's a lot of clubs between MLS and the EPL that he might be able to find....
