For those of you who want to know more about Eddy Hamel, Simon Kuper's book about the history of Ajax during WW2 is excellent.

What the hell is going on over here? I open two threads and they’re both utter shite.

Also, trying to figure it out made me hit unignore, which I hate.

Anyone offended - or even annoyed - by your bringing Eddy Hamel up needs to get a life.

In addition, many American football fans know nothing about Eddy Hamel and his story. They should, if they want to bat back snobby Europeans who like to sneer about Americans being parvenus in football. IMO, they should, period.

I do think the timing of the reference was weird, but if even one new person looked up Eddy Hamel’s story, it was worth it.

Because it is inappropriate to refer to the deportation and murder of Eddy Hamels as a bad transfer between AFC Ajax and Auschwitz.

I figured that spoke for itself but some people...

Total strawman. Nobody was offended by the bringing up of Eddy Hamels (though it made no sense and wasn't appropriate). It was the disrespectful and inappropriate way it was done.

the hamel story is interesting, and of course tragic. no problem with the post in that regard.

however, the usage of 'transfer' was a little crass.

any-who... window closes and hyndman has 6 more months of not making a matchday roster!!! yay

Dick swinging match aside, thanks for the Hamel story. That was an interesting story to learn today.

    Maybe so.

It's still deeply inappropriate to refer to Eddy Hamels deportation and murder in the holocaust as a "transfer" between AFC Ajax and Auschwitz.

Emo still has plenty of options: the Swedish and Norgewian transfer windows don't close until the end of March, and MLS's window opens on February 14th. The Russian window is open until the end of February.

And, the most likely, an EPL club can loan players to Championship sides at any time.

The loan system was revised at the beginning of last season.

He cannot go on loan within England now.

Thanks fellas. Based on how this conversation worked out I'm going to leave the posts as they are, despite the fact that concerns have been raised. I appreciate the fact that both posters approached this with respect in mind, even if the respective angles of approach might have made that similarity difficult to discern, initially.

Win today puts them currently in 9th with 31 points (will stay there unless Everton gets a result against Arsenal). There are 12 games remaining with 5 against top half of the table teams and 7 against the bottom half. They look pretty safe.

Scored the 6th goal in a rout and also appears to have gotten an assist on for 3rd or 4th.

Should be noted that even though B'mouth played a U-21 team, the Premier League Cup allows for U-23 teams since 2016.

The U-21 team also partnered EH with the 28 yo Harry Arter that Bournemouth put a £15 million price on last month. I wonder if they wanted to get Arter 90 mins (thought he was coming off injury), response to his recent comments about possibly leaving club in the summer and/or to beat up on poor Bury and give them a better chance getting out of the group. Seems odd he was eligible to play. Anybody know rules on over age players in this competition?

Same as the Olympic Games: three outfield players over 23 are allowed per match day squad:

    https://www.premierleague.com/news/58756

Unlike the OGs, they also allow for one overage keeper in addition.
