I didn't realize Lee McCullouch was caretaker at Killie at the moment. Gers stil 0-0. 2x the shots + 60% possession = diddlysquat
Hyndman did well, his coming off was a surprise. So the speculation on their boards is either a slight nag or tactical reasons, although they're as baffled as I am. The SPL is such a working man league. Doing your duty for the team quietly is appreciated. Today the brunt of the fans' anger has been aimed at Tavernier. Waghorn, who with Beerman was considered their best player today, was also taken out eventually. Maybe Pedro is crazy. BTW, is it me or is Scottish well in the way of becoming a different language?
100% speculation on my part, but I'd guess - 1) PC is just "trying sh*t" - he started some kids, sat Miller, etc. etc. Gers seemed to have possession (I was just checking matchtrackers) and couldn't score. 2) Hyndman's played a lot of minutes, some big games coming up. Could have thought he looked tired in a mid-week away slog? But I'm really just making this up.
Scottish started as a different language and has been that way for quite a while, though oddly I've always thought that some of the "further from England" accents, like Aberdeen, have been easier to understand than some Glaswegian or Edinburgh accents.
Yeah you can still feel the Gaelic influence here and there. The speculation at this point is that Pedro was just protecting Hyndman, since the surface of that stadium is particularly harsh, and the play was getting a bit rough. As one of them puts it, "we do have a responsibility to protect other teams players when they're on a loan." Some actually thought Hyndman was their best player the first half. I disagree, I think Waghorn was, but Hyndman was one of the three or four best. At any rate, this is a game they should have won.
^^ I didn't watch but shots were like 3x by end. corners too. Gers finishing has really hurt them this season.
Speaking of firebombs, did you check out Gers today? Tip your server. Seriously, I was at loss to divine Caixinha's plan of attack. Especially at the beginning, it was a frenetic, chaotic, Hail Mary of an offensive that bypassed the midfield completely. Although it was still more organized than last night's CCL semifinal, IMO. Emo played a fine half and had a decent shot on goal. I would have preferred to see more possession and build up through the midfield because on those few occasions when it did occur, it was effective and Emo's creativity created problems for Kilmarnock. In a recent friendly conversation with one of our esteemed posters, the charge was made that Hyndman is a liability on defense. I therefore decided to pay particular attention to his defensive play. Going by this game alone, he was the most effective midfielder on defense. Here are some points: - You won't see Hyndman make many tackles. Who cares? I agree with Pique or whoever said that a tackle is the end result of poor defensive positioning. Hyndman made several steals by intercepting passing lanes and even in 1 v 1 challenges due to superior ball control and touch. - It is hard to criticize a player who gets from the offensive endline to the defensive box on practically every counterattack for his defensive shortcomings.
He and Pulisic, to me, play similar defense. Anticipate, step into lanes or track back fast and surprise on the run. Emo can't body bigger guys, but he has quick feet so he doesn't get burned 100% too often.
My daughter was screaming in my ear she that she was going to be late for theater practice. Otherwise I would have taken the time to look it up. Thanks - you are, as usual, correct. He has repeated it in other interviews as well, but this probably the first place I read it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...onso-English-football-Spain-team-leaders.html Tackling and the fact that it has always been seen as sufficiently important in English football for it to become a specialised job - the ball-winner - has always bemused Alonso. 'Tackling is not really a quality, it's more something you are forced to resort to when you don't have the ball,' he says. To underline his point he recalls experiences at Liverpool reading programme profiles. 'You would come across an interview with a lad from the youth team and they've asked him his age, his heroes as a kid, and his strong points. And he would say things like shooting and tackling. I can't get into my head that footballing development would educate tackling as a quality. 'What players should aspire to is that understanding of the game. We have players like Sergio Busquets, Xavi, Santi Cazorla, Silva and Mata. They can play in tight spaces and they know how to interpret the pattern of a game. They know when to dribble and when to play a short pass. And for me that intelligence is fundamental and needs to be developed from the kids' level.' This is the interview more people may remember. From Wahl, last year: https://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/06/29/xabi-alonso-bayern-munich-midfielder "Desperation" is not a word in Xabi Alonso’s vocabulary, which is why he thinks the elaborate midfield slide tackle—that bastion of English-style bustling commitment—is overrated. For what is a slide tackle, Alonso reasons, if not an admission that your positioning could have been better? “Especially in the U.K., some people understand—and some people don’t,” says the World Cup–winning Basque Spaniard who has played for such storied clubs as Liverpool, Real Madrid and now Bayern Munich. “If you are too much on the ground, then something is not right. I love good tackling, but I prefer the player who does not need to do that.”
Does Rangers actually have anything to play for the rest of the season? They're not going to catch Celtic and Aberdeen for 1st/2nd. So basically all they need to do is pick up enough points to keep the pack (St Johnstone, etc.) at bay for that 3rd spot, which will get them into Europa League qualification spots. They should be in "casting the net" mode to see which young players can help them next year and beyond. And they need to decide if they're going to try to acquire Hyndman on a permanent basis. If they're not, or Bournemouth doesn't want to sell, then what is the point of playing him much for the rest of this season?
They just cannot afford Hyndman. At this point any post saying they should get him permanently is nothing but wishful thinking.
Pulisic seems a little less subtle and more direct defensivley to my eyes. He streaks in and either nips the ball or gets bypassed. Hyndman compares directly to Stu Holden for me. Hyndman reminds me 100% of how Holden played and both were constantly underrated from a defensive standpoint, cutting down angles, picking pockets and providing a constant nuisance and both cover a ridiculous amount of ground.
well. Gers are 12 points back of Aberdeen with 7 games to go, so 2nd's a steep climb, but not mathematically impossible. Sunday is the proverbial "massive" head to head with the Dons. The last two ties really hurt Gers chances, but they can't look like they're giving up yet. And I think SPL 3rd place still get Europa 1st round games. So Gers will play to win to the end. PC might continue to experiment with kids a bit, but if he just starts screwing around and drops them behind St. Johnstone Gers fans will not be pleased.
