http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-reportedly-interests-brazilian-clubs-after-t Apparently, El Homie's exploits in the Libertadores, specifically against Brazilian opposition, has interested some clubs in Samba Land. Good for him. He played very, very well in the Libertadores but that was just the icing on the cake of a very good season in Liga MX. I wonder who the clubs are and I wonder if he and/or Club TJ would be willing to depart.
A move to Brazil would be a win-win for the Yanks. Edgar would get to play in a better league ahead of the WC and his backup at Tijuana, Greg Garza, would get a chance to be a regular starter in Liga MX.
Club Tijuana named Argentine Jorge Almirón as their new manager. Antonio Mohamed decided to go back to Argentina. Almirón has never been in charged of a top tier club before. He has stints with Dorados, Veracruz, and Correcaminos UAT in the Mexican second tier on his resume and spent time as an assistant at Atlas in the top division. His last job was at Defensa y Justicia in the Argentine 2nd tier. He lead them to 5th during the recently completed season. Almirón had a long career as a defensive midfielder in Mexico in both the 1st and 2nd division. He retired from playing in 2009.
Would a move to Brazil be that much of an upgrade from Mexico? I mean, the individual talent is likely better and the high-end teams are probably better but top-to-bottom is the Brazilian league really much better than Mexico? That aside, If I were Edgar, I'd stay put. The last time he moved from a good situation (Santos Laguna) he spent 3 years bouncing around 4 teams looking for a good fit. He finally found that fit in TJ and he'd be foolish to leave, especially a year before the World Cup. After Brazil? Sure, roll the dice if you want a bigger score or have wander lust. But for the next year, stay in that good spot.
I mean....it would be a great league to develop his attacking even more. Plus, the lure of going to a 'foreign' nation to play the game..not to mention he'll probably get a healthy pay raise. Neymar was earning 10mil. USD yearly... (before Barca' that is). Is it that much better? Depends... Brasil is #1 BY FAR right now...then below it's a fight between Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia right now for #2,3,4.
American Exports: Joe Corona, Edgar Castillo return in Club Tijuana's win over Pachuca July 31, 2013 Tom Marshall "...Greg Garza started and went the full 90 minutes for Club Tijuana in their 1-0 win over Pachuca in Liga MX play on Tuesday at Estadio Caliente....Edgar Castillo ... came off the bench in the 67th minute, with Xolos already up.... Castillo (above) played on the left wing in front of Garza and looked like he came back from US national team duty full of confidence, although he did pick up a needless yellow in the 69th for a late tackle...." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ar-castillo-return-club-tijuanas-win-over-pac
It's nice that Carlton is getting work. You know who should be concerned watching this: Kyle Martino, Taylor Twellman, Cobi Jones, Eric Wynalda, etc... Herc is so articulate and funny (per his twitter) and he has so much relevant experience and credibility and he is gonna be great in broadcasting when he's done playing. He's taking someone's job.
"On Friday, Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona both went 90 minutes as Club Tijuana cruised to a 2-0 victory over Pumas UNAM at Estadio Caliente.... Castillo was electric down the left flank, particularly in the second half, bursting down the center in the 77th from left back in a sweeping move before he was tackled just inside the penalty area." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...ley-puebla-still-winless-after-fruitless-draw-
Yea; Castillo was burning them up. He's just something else in mexico. He's more confident, and his stops and quick bursts just tear teams a part on the left side of the field.
I hope Jurgen gives Homie a run out at LW instead of LB in this upcoming friendly but I seriously doubt that happens with Fabian being listed as a midfielder in the roster release.
Castillo went the distance in a 2-1 road loss to Monterrey last night. He assisted on Paul Arriola's goal, though the Monterrey winner came from the Xolos left side.
"...Three Americans featured for Club Tijuana in their 2-2 tie with CD Guadalajara on Sunday at Estadio Omnilife. Edgar Castillo was the only starter and was solid in his usual left back spot, getting the better of Chivas winger Jesús Sánchez, but the New Mexico native (above) was forced off in the 79th minute with what looked like an injury...." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-injured-club-tijuana-give-late-equalizer-chi
Castillo started last night and played the full 90 in Tijuana's shutout win over Queretaro. He seems to be the most consistent starter of all the yanks at Tijuana.
Castillo left yesterday's game in the 76th minute with an apparent hamstring injury. Xolos were out of subs, but he did not return. Club Tijuana were also eliminated from playoff contention yesterday.
Their coach is gone http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...b-tijuana-set-new-manager-after-argentine-jor This is could be good news for Corona
From a round up Mexican based YA news by Tom Marshall: Also, the "Venezuelan Mourinho" Cesar Farias was named Xolos new coach this week.
That was the rumor circulating when he was playing the Libertadores. Some Brasilian clubs were interested.
Seems that Castillo came off with a leg injury in Tijuana's last game. The problem now is that Garza is also injured, leaving the team with a bit of a left-back crisis: 'Xolos' entrena con varios lesionados
