ARIS Salonica vs Panathinaikos: 1/24/2010 16:45 greek time

After a successful run with 4 league victories and 1 cup qualificaton, Aris faces wannabe champions Panathinaikos in the most important game of this week.

The game kicks off at 16:45 greek time (09:45 US eastern time).

Hopefully, both Aris' Americans will get minutes of participation.

Info, streams, news for the game will be posted soon.

Panathinaikos sounds like something you'd pick up at a whore house.

I think it means something like "of all Athenians."

    ^^

    Yeap! That's right!

In greek, the prefix "Pan-" means "all".

So, Panathinaikos means the team of "all Athenians". It was named like that in order to represent the entire city of Athens.

Well, if the the rabidity of a fan base can be indicated by the earliness of the game day threads, these Aris fans are tough to beat! ;)

An Aris supporter in the Adu thread reported that Cuper said Adu wasn't ready to start yet.

Υes, I wrote that before Cuper's press conference.

He thinks he is not ready for 90 minutes in the greek league and especially for a derby like this.

He will probably be a substitution

Did Cuper said Adu will only get a few minutes on Sunday? That would be a huge disappointment.

I was hoping he'll get around 30 minutes or so.

By saying "few minutes of participation", I think he meant approx. 20-30 minutes.

Of course, the way the game evolves could differentiate his participation.

Don't take smth for granted... Only Cuper knows.

    Sunday approaches! ;)

Well, let's hope that they don't have a "wooden wall" that "shall not fail" them on Sunday. There, that's my classical Greek reference for the day.

A few minutes is still a huge improvement over what he's been getting...

Really appreciate the translation. Was thinking about it just now. If it weren't for the dedication and generosity of the Aris fans on here, USA fans would be very much in the dark on Adu and EJ.

    Aris' pre-selection for the game:

Sifakis, Peskovic, Prittas, Lambriakos, Kouloucheris, Calvo, Campora, Neto, Arano, Ronaldo Guiaro, Nacho Garcia, Javito, Nasuti, Koke, Vangelj, Johnson, Adu, Aravidis, Rovas, Pitu Garcia

Before the kick-off, 2 players will be left out.

Aris won't have (Tunisian international with French passport, ex-Birmingham) Mehdi Nafti, due to yellow card ban, (Argentinian with Spanish passport) central midfielder Dario Ezequiel Fernandez, due to injury and (Irish U21 international, ex-Man City) forward Ian Daly, due to injury.

On the other hand (Argentinian defender with Italian passport) Cristian Nasuti is available again, after a 2-match yellow card ban.

Given the absences and Cuper's statements, a possible lineup could be:

[LINEUP-4-4-2]Campora, Koke, Calvo, Prittas, Nacho Garcia, Javito, Arano, Nasuti, Ronaldo, Neto, Sifakis[/LINEUP-4-4-2]

    On the bench:

    GK-Peskovic
    DF-Kouloucheris, Vangelj
    MF-Pitu Garcia, Rovas, Adu
    CF-Johnson, Aravidis, Lambriakos
