Looks like Edwin Lara, former US U17 player, has been discussed plenty in the USA youth forum, but never got his own club thread.

    DOB: September 8, 1999

Edwin Lara, with the U-17 team Pachuca and Giansebastian Goicochea, with the U-20 Atlas, are two of the four graduates Sueño Alianza tryouts PowerAde® who still have hopes of being champions in their respective tournaments in the Liga MX .

In this tournament Edwin Lara, who is from the 2014 generation, has added 579 minutes in 10 games he has played, six of whom has started.

He shows up on this roster for the CCL match against FCD. Not on the bench, but interesting:

He already has a two-digit jersey number?

    He's made the big time.

He's still only 17, so he's debuting at a pretty young age, especially for a defender.

They seem to rate him pretty highly at Pachuca. I wonder if the Mexico U-20's will call him up frequently for the upcoming U-20 cycle. If not, Ramos (or whoever is the US coach) should call him up. He's a quality player, and he plays the biggest position need for our NT.

@Salmos @LaMascara, can we get an update on this player?

Is this guy progressing? Not progressing? Is there a reason he hasn't been involved with the first team after his CopaMX appearance in August? Too young? Not good enough? A lot of depth at his position?

he apears to not be good enough since the players have been dreadful in defence.

once the copa Mx renews maybe will see him more. his main competition Aguirre was moved to the RW.

Furthermore, he was not called up to the latest Mexico U18 camp for '99s.

We're in a weird position since we don't really have the luxury right now of debuting players, especially at that position.

If he's a part of next preseason he has a decent chance to stay on board. I bet you anything guys like Pablo Lopez and Alexis Peña are gong to be sent to Mineros (2nd division team) next season.

Also Pachuca tends to develop players who are able to play in different positions so maybe we see him playing in a different position in the future.

Named the third-best CONCACAF player born in '99.

I have a fair amount of hope for him returning to the US eventually. Not saying it's a likelihood, but he hasn't been called into El Tri youth teams since October 2016 according to our youth national team forum.

Sadly for him pachuca recently purchased another lb from Colombia.

Maybe he gets moved to a different position or gets loaned to another team.

Do you know what the left back competition El Tri has for Edwin in his birth year (1999) and near his birth year? It just seems odd to me that Mexico would not call him up at all in well over a year, not even to sit on the bench. This is a player who was essentially a lock starter for US youth teams, and consistently the youngest player in the starting lineup.

I don't and I would say it doesn't matter. US media/blogs/etc have a really strange way of treating youth categories. His priority should be to make the main squad even if he doesn't play very often. We're playing Copa MX again so the chance is normally there for a youth player at that position. But the problem is we have 2 good players there.

He's 18 and usually players aren't sent to other teams until they're about 20 so for now I expect him to just play consistently with PAC U20s.

You could say Manuel Mayorga replaced Lara with the U20's...However, he is 2 years older than Edwin... Edwin was never part of the U20's cycle. He didn't even feature in the Concacaf U20...

Interestingly, Lara was called to the U21 squad in November of 2016 for a tourney in China. Lara was the youngest player in the squad... México won the tourney, and that was the last time Lara was called up for any Mexican youth squad... Funny how he was called up for the U21's at age 17, but he wasn't called up for the U20 side....

Edwin Lara's case for México was a bit of an anomaly... Mexican youth national managers rarely call up players who are usually not between the age limit... In Lara's case, he was the only player born in '99 that was called up to the 2015 U17 World Cup in México.... That was shortly after he was scouted from Alianza and signed with Pachuca.
