Exhibit A: "Ajax is losing to Vitesse, 1-2. If the season ends today, Ajax is in last place. Alvarez should have gone to Vitesse."
He's not Ajax Youth. He was already captain of Fortuna Sittard at the age of 17, when they promoted to the Eredivisie.
He didn't get his work papers finalized until Thursday and has only had one day of training with the senior team. Would you expect a player transferring into the Champions League semifinal team to start with one day of practice and not knowing the ability of the players around him? Chill out a little bit, Alvarez will be just fine at Ajax and probably will be a key player within 2-3 weeks.
Edson Alvarez named to the 23 man traveling team for Ajax's qualifier against PAOK Salonika tomorrow. Qualifying Champions League rounds have not been part of the normal television coverage here in the US so I don't know what options there will be to watch the match. This is going to be a difficult game for Ajax as the Greek team will bunker down and try to snatch a goal on the counter.
If it had been a half day of training I could see how he would be a 2nd half sub, but he had a full day to get ready. No excuses. Not serious of course, really looking forward to seeing him develop at Ajax. All the mexican players that have gone to the Dutch league have said the speed is what they have to adjust to the most. It will probably be a bit before he really starts to click with the team.
he wouldn't be on the bench if he were playing with America. He should seek out a loan back to America.
