I haven't seen him play since our Ukraine friendly last March. We're not exactly oozing with outside back talent at the moment. Does anyone who's up to date on his current form, think he could have a national team comeback in him?
I can't say I've seen him play RECENTLY, but he's a known commodity in MX. He's back with his ex coach from Tijuana, Turco Mohamed who brought out the best in him. I'd have to think he's doing pretty well...
I saw that Castillo started last night in Monterrey's friendly vs Benfica. It was the inauguration of Rayado's new stadium.
Played in all 10 games this season in a down year for Monterrey http://us.soccerway.com/players/edgar-eduardo-castillo-carrillo/15214/

Also @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent I think we need a thread name change. Edgar Castillo at Monterrey
I have no idea, I watch liga MX pretty casually but my Spanish isn't very useful, I may have called for an unnecessary name change.
He scores: Here's Edgar Castillo's goal tonight for Monterrey. Great goal, makes a run into the box off a set piece:pic.twitter.com/ZTQsL9YpHa #USMNT— Roderick MacNeil (@rodmacneil) February 21, 2016
Typical goal/play for him. A LB who loves to get deep and can score/cross like a great winger. He just doesn't work for the NT because of the large defensive responsibility he has if played there. If you want him to be effective, he has to play as a LW in a 4-3-3/LM in a 4-5-1 and try to make sure he's not the last man as a LB. He's not the greatest defender especially with how Klinsmann has his team set up. I think he's had plenty of time to shine and has had mixed results. Frankly, I think Klinsmann probably is looking at Ibarra now.
Nice to see Castillo getting a little love on USSoccer.com. Good that the door is always open even after his disastrous performance v Ukraine in the pre-WC2014 friendly. In Mexico, Edgar Castillo continued his fine run of form, playing 90 minutes and scoring his first goal of the campaign in Monterrey’s 5-1 defeat of Veracruz on Saturday. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...teamers-pushing-their-clubs-to-league-summits

Poor Castillo just lost Monterey the championship in the 93rd minute. He got destroyed in the air for the Pachuca winner.
It looked really bad for him on that play, but up a man in the 93rd minute, it was really tough on him to be isolated on that type of cross trying to hold back a runner with momentum and leverage. Gotta feel for him, and Rayados shouldn't have let it get to that point. Sucks for our boy.
Monterrey looked great in the first half. Whatever adjustments were made by Pachuca in the second worked and the Rayados couldn't do anything in the last quarter hour while being a man up. In any case, Edgar couldn't handle the task at hand. An exciting match though. Not the highest quality but lots of chances and crazy saves.
