On a link found on the Uni-Watch website. It said it was from an '81 Italian source, but I think it was earlier. Not all teams shown.
That looks familiar, even though I've never been to Italy. Unlike with any of the other teams there with longer names, for some reason they chose not to use two lines to spell out the entire "San Jose Earthquakes" name. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Happy 67th birthday to U.S. international defender Mark Demling, a product of the Saint Louis University scene who played 7 NASL seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes and the San Diego Sockers.
Happy 72nd birthday to German striker Karl-Heinz "Charlie" Mrosko, a veteran of 7 different Bundesliga sides who led the Oakland Stompers with 11 goals in his only NASL season in 1978.
Way back in 1974, the year the Sounders joined NASL, we were having a neighborhood event in the park that was right across the street from our house. One of the attendees was going to be Jimmy Gabriel of the new Seattle Sounders soccer team! I remember that before I could make it to the event I had to do my Seattle Times paper route. This was back in the day when the Times had paper "shacks" where all the papers in an area were dropped off and the paper boys would all go there on their bikes to get the papers for their routes. I don't think I had ever pedaled so fast, and did my route in record time, only to get to the park to find out Gabriel had just left after giving away a bunch of Sounder souvenirs. I remember being totally bummed that just missed out!
