The bad news no Jozy, no Gio and we didn't score a home goal. Very little positive to take from this shit show
Santos should never take a FK or corner. Pathetic effort. Crew bunkered and tried to counter while at home with the opponent missing their 2 best attacking players.
It was a dire performance in my opinion. With the crowd and the energy from these 16 days, you’d have thought they could at least appear to give two shits. It was shambolic all around, from my seat. Special shout out to Kamara for being an utterly worthless pile of shit tonight.
QUOTE from Hangthadj from the PBP thread: Pedro Santos was absolute shit. Harrison Afful has the touch of a donkey. Ola Kamara is offsides. Is anyone surprised by these things?
We score a goal and tie or win in Toronto we win. A 2-1 loss sends us into our spiral of depression and despair.
Don't forget Meram being offsides. Frustrating game and I picked a 2 or more goal win but as I sat down tonight I knew TFC would pack the back and shut down the outside which meant every attack usually ended with a 2 on 7 or 3 on 7 and eventually Warzycha like long ball. Without a lucky bounce you ain't scoring. Just thankful home tie and no away goals for TFC. Now we need to face the same team with their offensive weapons back on their turf. No pressure.
All the mods are still on the grounds checking their coolers for post game comfort. Might be a while.
Yep, because Jozy and Gio are gone, we are going to light up the Eastern Conference's #1 defense. Wait, Jozy and Gio are on the offensive end? And the last time they didn't play, Toronto lit us up for 5 goals? A goal or two would have been glorious but let's get realistic. Toronto is a very organized defense playing on the road without their two top offensive stars. They were going to play bunker-ish all night and try to sneak a counter-attack goal... because that is what we have been historically weakest against in the time under GG. And they played a hard press early that you knew couldn't last. Send Afful into the attack sooner, you say? Well, then you are opening yourself up to a road goal when they come down his side as he is caught up the field. Instead, you wait for them to gas out so their counter-attack is slowed or non-existent (like say... full bunker mode as they try to get out of town with a tie). Yes, dumbleDore and Einhorn/Vinco are back for the next game and Artur is out which hurts and is dangerous but the pressure is all on Toronto now. They mess up and we strike first on the road, we are sitting in the driver seat. Plus, having those two back could potentially open the game up more in Toronto than it was here, which plays more to our strength. Some players are really going to have to step up their game because it will be a hands-full night for the defense (and an ulcer-inducing one for us fans) but 0-0 out of this game is far from horrible.
Was Twattman muzzled by ESPiN tonight? He said nothing negative about the Crew’s plight (although I made a few bathroom and fridge runs). Also, did not see Prec***t’s mug tonight. Was he even here?
TFC has a game plan. Mark higuain out of the game, defend deep and don’t press us in our third. We couldn’t draw them out and they hardly threatened until the last 20 when the game opened up just enough for us to create a couple of chances that could have made the second leg interesting. Ref was frustratingly inconsistent and bought a lot of their “professionalism”. The card count another example of where he punished us and let simile stuff by them go without caution. Did Bradley get any cards? Positives, no much other than we didn’t concede an away goal and that the atmosphere was great if not a little frustrated at times.
To add. I was disappointed with the first 15. We should have come out pressing, tackling, getting the crowd on their toes. It’s almost like we started the game trying to figure out what TFC we’re going to do. Too slow and plodding with possession.
What was the ESPN take on santos, dive or pen? He looked mad and seemed to be delaying for video review
So I guess Bradley was talking shit afterwards? Something about we have a “small group of supporters” who care about the team
I always wondered what a game would look like when both teams bunker and counter. This was the soccer version of Cop Rock.
Yeah. Much easier to run home and be paid 6 million. Still. At least when World Cup Qualifying was on the line none of us jogged to take a corner. Most over rated player in the league.
