2015 CA was not a good copa for not just Falcao but for nearly every other key player who was coming off of injuries or lack of form. Add further insult to injury our tactics and style of play went from disciplined/organized ball possession to long ball/desperate crossing/predictable passing/playing like a Sunday pick up game This new era we are about to start will be interesting to see how players like Duvan/Borre/Villa/JFQ/Barrios/Lerma/Mina/Davinson/Uribe get integrated into the main squad and work together on a regular basis.
And to be honest it pretty much went the way it should have gone. We lost to a team that has been a stone in our shoe forever in Venezuela. We held on to a win against Brazil. We tied against a Peru team that really did not need to win and they got third place eventually. Then we drew against Argentina and got sent home due to spot kicks. It was not the best tournament in the world but obviously not the worst.
Fair. For me I wanted 2015CA to be for us like 2011CA was for Uruguay. A great follow up to a strong World Cup showing.
Its not a surprise that Duvan is tearing it up, I was beating the drum that hit underlying numbers were fantastic for club last year but his coach didn't consistently use him and he was on a team that wasn't exactly an attacking force. I'm glad to see him doing so well but we should keep in mind that goal scoring has a ton of variables and guys like Duvan who are not what you'd call a specialist goal scorer and who does a lot of work for a team outside of just scoring goals shouldn't be simply judged by the number of goals beside his name. And we should also add that in the last few games he was healthy with Colombia he was playing really well and Pekerman was starting him, I'm fairly sure he would have had a very good chance to start with Falcao at the World Cup if he stayed healthy.
To pile on to this point, we can see he is getting really good service from his teammates at Atalanta the last few months. It seemed in previous teams he was up alone by himself without many good passes.
Not necesary, Quagriallera his team mate scored 18 goals last season 2017-2018. (this season too) If he is having his best season ever is because of him....and that he have been REGULAR in the last months......... for example in first months of season he was alternating with Barrow his spot.....
Exactly, and he still did pretty well. Scoring goals is a function of the chances you create, the chances you create is a function of the balance of play and 11 players working together to provide service to forwards. We are seeing that he's thriving in a good but not great team that is giving him good service, if he gets a run of games with Quintero and James service with his work helping the team defend and keep possession he could really do well. Its also the same reason we need to see Cucho in our national team to judge him clearly, his team is really bad and at 19 he does a ton of good things for that team but clearly he does not have the kind of attack around him that will create chances, when he suits up for Colombia we should have a chance to judge where he is as a goal scoring forward.
I see your point about Quagriallera but him getting goals does not mean Zapata was getting good service. I do not remember him getting the same service he is getting now. Such beautiful passes and crosses you can see with your two eyes in these last few months.
But Quagrialla is a very different player then Duvan, Duvan is a pure CF who needs service and isn't going to create goals himself or drop deep and get on the ball and create for himself. There is always different roles and functions in teams and Sampdoria has seemed to evolve into a team that really has Quagrialla as the central force, he's done amazing in that role but that doesn't necessarily mean that Duvan failed that just means that Quagrialla has been the focus of the attack for Samp. CF's do best as the focal point of the attack, Quagrialla has been the focal point and it works, but Duvan can be very effective for a team without needing to be the focal point because he offers a lot more then goals. I think that's a good thing, but we are seeing that he can still bag in goals at this stage in his career when he gets the service.
I partially agree with both of you @HomietheClown @villus about the service and characteristic..........but i think his good season is more realted with his current for that have been regular (goals are the reflect of his form) .............previous season the coach punished him with bench after wasnt staisfied with his form...........like happened with gasperini. But the point is that duvan in some matches with samp and udiense.....seems he was able to do a lot of things without service......and in some matches he doesnt. AI hope he continues with this consistency, im sure that even with this level he would stole the starting spot in napoli.
Playing with another striker today. The other striker is crazy selfish. Don’t think Falcao-Duvan would be this bad
Horrible match for atalanta. Duvan and ilicic have wasted their chances.....keeping the ball more time.
VAR helping out Atalanta there! (And ilicic went from a yellow and continuing his horrible match to a hero) lol Come on Duvan....
