there are so many wing options (options! not 100% sure-fire improvements, mind you) that I'd want to see given a shot: Holmes, Saief (now that he's FINALLY actually healthy), Mueller, tyler boyd, de la fuente, gall, Picault, manneh, Amon, Sabbi, Gooch, Tillman, etc etc....

really no reason to keep running out players who dont cut it or players who are not wide mids but really just center forwards.............

I'm really most curious to see holmes and mueller...but some of the other options are intriguing as well....its not like there is NO ONE ELSE besides the options GB has thrown out there....

Got a sense of humor, too. Or humour, given his accent.

To me, CP + Holmes in either of those roles > any of the other options. I think that’s what would be the ideal for Berhalter. Arriola is a poor man’s Holmes, and he works pretty well as a CP body double. Imagine that athleticism and even more pace with even (much) more skill and creativity. That’s DH. Just let them get wild over there with the swapping.

In a 4-2-3-1, we can have the manlet line:

    Pulisic (5'7")----Holmes (5'6")-----Arriola (5'6")

right behind whoever is the striker.

But then how will we know Berhalter is a tactical genius?

He was a big overlook for me too, but don't be shocked if he's not called for the Gold Cup. He's yet to be "integrated into the squad" and AFAIK has no international experience whatsoever...those two things would probably give guys like Roldan looks over him.

You did not express appropriate disdain toward the idea of that happening. It’s absurd.roldan can’t chew gum and walk. Unless it’s a medium pace. And his touch is horrendous. And his skills are nonexistent. And his vision is that of a bat with blinders.

Oh, And his lack of athleticism is his biggest problem.

Unsurprisingly he's in the WhoScored Championship XI of the Week. So is Lichaj.

I'd agree that Holmes looks on video a better player, but I'm not down on Roldan. For me he's got a good engine and positioning...lacks the quick feet Holmes has and maybe some of the "seeing eye" passes. There exists a squad with both guys in it, maybe once Bradley phases out

We've all seen Roldan for the NT. Not impressive so far.

We haven't seen Holmes, who's impressive at the same, if not slightly higher, club level.

    Hey folks,

Why are we discussing Roldan in the Duane Holmes YA thread?

Sorry, that was rhetorical. I don't really want to know the answer. I just want the USMNT discussion to continue in the forums dedicated to that topic.

    Thanks!

In my research of this, I came across Derby County forums.

If y’all don’t think this kid can play, go read theirs. They got multi page threads dedicated to writing songs for Holmes.

Kid can play. And he’s a fan fave on the club produced video. The US continues to bottle it by not bringing him in and playing up how freakingcool he is. Oh, and he’s better than any other attacking mid we have. By a long shot.

This guy needs and deserves a call up. He could change the whole attack. He’s perfectly suited for one of those dual 10 roles

10 minutes left and down 1-0. Derby would be left #8 in the league, 3 pts. behind the last playoff spot.

PS: It ended 2-0 to Blackburn.

Out today due to a thigh injury.

    https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/duane-holmes-not-derby-countys-2757440

Asked about Holmes' absence from the 18 against Bolton, manager Frank Lampard said: "After Brentford, he was struggling a bit with fatigue, hence why he didn't start at Blackburn and now he has a small injury to his quad. It is one to look at day by day. I hope it is more a week than two to three weeks, but it could be anywhere in between that."

It means Holmes is doubtful for the Easter weekend fixtures.

Still no Holmes today, but a 90th-minute penalty gives Derby a 1-0 win over QPR and vaults them into 6th. This weekend's trip to Bristol City will likely play a decisive role in their playoff qualification chances.
