Three cheers for this thread. I do watch rallying, and you do see cars sliding like this on rally stages. And that can look cool because there's something tactically significant about the manoeuvre. But drifting as a sport in and of itself is tacky, not to mention prety subjective in part of its grading.

No fun. I'll take some rallying, thx.

I'm definitely all for rallying because it's racing. But this shit seems like it's born out of idiocracy.

I was hoping that by now drifting would have gone away, it seems like a tremendous waste of good rubber.

    And its just plain stupid.

why? because it is fun. why else? Beyond that I would say the element of "******** it" type danger, the comradery built among ppl (drivers are often apart of a group; and to trust enough to drive at your limits with others), and the counterculture element of the sport (visually loud, "pointless", and often aggravates traditional auto enthusiast). I compare the market and sport to skateboarding.

Was heavily involved & support of the scene since around 2003 that I guess built awareness of the market that gave Hollywood a reason to base a movie on it. After that it all became a little bit too much & I personally fell into a financial whole after being screwed over from a shop.

Made a bunch of great friends from driving, hanging out drinking beer while working on our cars. So yeah.. I'd say fun is a good answer.

Skip to 0:55 and you'll see some proper drifting, not the namby-pamby stuff in the post above:

I hate drifting. Its just wast of money and your car. If you like it you can play a video game.
