I got a PM suggesting I should repost this as it was quickly buried several pages deep this morning and some in other leagues may have missed it. It's been referred to as poetry, but, for better or worse, this is just my everyday-speak with my kid at the moment....

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=15348552#post15348552

'Twas the second day of draft week
    And all 'cross the land
    The airwaves were buzzing
    In VSR and Sand

    The playing of real games
    Did not even matter
    For in this moment
    Their was laughter and chatter

    The other leagues watched on
    With one eye, or two
    To see if their sleepers
    Were disclosed by a few

    The strategies evolved
From the west coast to east
    Looking for points
    That costed the least

    Each guarded their draft list
    With caution and care
    Too early for this pick?
    Oh, would he dare?

    Should he pick the Spaniard?
Should he build from the top?
Or was it better to build
    A defense at the Kop?

    On Stevie, On Frankie
    Push forward this year
    And here's to Fernando
    And his extra gear

And I cursed now and then
If a pick went before me
But at least I had nabbed
    The defender named Terry

    But enough of this break
    There is research to read
    I still need to find
    The next Gary Speed

    So back to my spreadsheet
There is work to be done
    But unlike other jobs
    This work is so fun

    And I reminded myself
    As I agonized each round
    "He'll be traded by Christmas
When a new guy is found!" :)

The draft remains the best part of every fantasy league I've ever been in.

    Fantastic.

However, last year in the Barclay's Fantasy I sat on Gary Speed for six weeks because the year before he did well and Bolton schedule was easy.

Instead, I saw Annelka score all the goals for Bolton.

Thus the references are very strong.

Haha! What muse compels these flights of verse? Right up there with Lobo and his Lebo Lebo hunter/gatherer epic from the '06 World Cup.

I have the Google Docs for Small and Dust as my favorites.

It is great to see the how the drafts are moving in the various leagues.

Reflecting briefly on the fact that the draft is the best part of the fantasy season, I'm going to bump this post from over a decade ago, with the added bonus this season that the kid referenced in the intro paragraph is now a teenager and is my consultant/partner this season.

Hope everyone's draft is proceeding as planned, at least a little bit...

    Brilliant! Bravo!

As for this year's draft I have studied the teams and the players but still couldn't decide on a specific route to take.

So I opted for the fun filled flying by the seat of my pants manouvers.

Turns out it's not as much fun as people make out! I'm afraid. Very afraid.
