Starting to be some stories, particularly around Mandzukic - some even suggesting he could come in Dec (given how unwanted he is by Juve) obvs couldn't play but could start to train.

Even some claims a deal has been agreed with the player, which given we nearly had a striker over the line according to Ole may not be complete BS. Supposedly 18months contract.

Don't like the Jan xfer window, would rather we get the right targets if Glazers are keeping money tight (unless we really do look like relegation candidates). Specifically not a fan of older players given we need to be building something.

However given we have already blown any chance of CL football for next season then beggars can't be too choosy.

Caught between wanting the right targets, but also given our predicament and depth of squad would in some sense take any scraps the Glazers throw us.

Supporting this club is a mindf$$k.

saw Mandžukić rumours for £10m being already agreed.

i was firmly against it in the summer but any help at this point would be good. it must be short term and not massive wages though.

then again we are hardly in a position to bargain

Agree that Mandzukic makes sense depending on wages. Rash needs to be playing the wing exclusively. The 9 role should be Martial then Mandzukic then Greenwood.

The January transfer window is useful to buy players who are unhappy in their club. Imho Manchester United should consider:

    1) Eric Dier
    [IMG]
Eric Dier in recent months has fallen down the pecking order with Tottenham in favor of Ndombele, Sissoko and Winks. He would be very useful for Manchester United and would allow to play with 4-3-3 without using Matic.

    2) Emre Can
    [IMG]
Emre Can is very unhappy at Juventus at the moment. He has only made three appearances in Serie A as a substitute after being left out of the club's Champions League squad this season. Like Dier he would be useful as DM but he is also a versatile player.

    3) Gareth Bale
    [IMG]
Gareth Bale doesn't have a good feeling with Zidane, the manager made no secret of wishing to offload Bale last summer, plus the Welshman was snubbed in the recent Champions League group game against Club Brugge.
The right winger spot would be well covered with a star player, but the main issue is that Bale earns an eye-watering £600.000 a week in Spain, but i think that Manchester United is one of the few teams in Europe that can spend all that money.

    4) Christian Eriksen
    [IMG]
Eriksen will be out of contract in the summer and appears set to leave the club on a free transfer. With that in mind, Tottenham are hopeful to move him on for a fee in January, instead of losing him for nothing in the summer.
Eriksen would instantly lift Red Devils midfield's quality, but there are other important team interested in him.

Sancho, Madison and Neves isn't too much to ask, is it?

If we’re spending big on a 10, give Havertz all the moneys.

Agree on this. He's a good player and he would improve us currently, especially the way we play, but not a great deal and that's not the level of player we should be after. If we are gonna get a 10 who won't get on the ball deeper we may as well develop young talent of our own or play a "forward" who will likely get more goals in that position.

I think were pass the point of buying other countries A1 prospects. This is not realistic imo.

Or were you just being a muppet?
Who or what would be "higher" that is realistic?
What level of player should we be after?

Maddison is young but how many better 10' are there in the EPL? Unless you want a 28 year old Eriksen who wants big clubs.

    You want Ozil? Coutinho?

Or should we go full muppet and pipe dream about Kai Havertz, Dybala, Zaniolo?

Personally I'd rather play without a 10. Considering our current standing were not likely to get anyone who is established and already performing. We either go for a young player or and older 10 for short term. We see how well short term thinking is working for us.

You think were done with Longstaff?

I don't think a midfield of Neves, Pogba + 1, works unless you have a Kante/Prime Darren Fletcher/Allan (Napoli) type player next to them.

We should be over Longstaff: in the few games I've seen him in, still haven't seen what would justify a massive outlay, which Newcastle (just like Leicester with Maddison) are sure to demand. Plus personally would rather bank on Garner as our long term prospect at that spot.
Happened to watch Fiorentina vs Lazio this past weekend (looking to watch Milinkovic-Savic) and a player I was actually impressed by was Fiorentina's Erick Pulgar.
He's a DCM and looks to be a very solid one at that for someone who appears to be relatively unknown: excellent on the ball and is a proficient passer (who does play an integral part in the team's offensive scheme). Apparently used to be a defender as well, so that part of his game is polished as well.
Obviously would want to see more of him but based on this game, he looks like the type of player we should be going after. Still pretty young at just 25 and he's the type of player we could attract to the club. Partey would still my preferred option in that position, but even with the promise of a nice contract, the odds of him leaving a club like Atleti for United at this time, appear to be remote.
Fiorentina are not that kind of club obviously and if Pulgar is as legit as he appears to be, there will be clubs looking to make a move. And he probably would not cost an arm and a leg either.

Yeah I was joking. Havertz is a pipe dream type of player. He'll have plenty of suitors and absolutely no reason to join us unless we pay him silly money which is what we're trying to get away from.

I still think if theres any chance we can get Sancho that should be priority in the summer, which would be harsh on James given his form. Still, next summer priority should be Sancho, starting 10/8 type player, starting 6, depth 9, and then starting 8 if Pogba leaves.

    https://www.espn.com/soccer/manches...-eye-boubakary-soumare-moussa-dembele-sources

Dembele, as it's previously been mentioned, would be a good option in terms of having an alternative to Martial at CF, particularly since he's just not the most reliable player in terms of staying fit. Plus there are rumors he's ready to leave Lyon.
Don't know much at all about Soumare, but if he is legit, he is the type of signing the club needs to focus on at this time. The bigger names are pretty much out of our reach now (failure to qualify for the CL would only reinforce that point). And like Pool or Leicester currently, we need to unearth lower profile players, but with great upside.
James in that regard is a very good example but we definitely need to expand our horizons beyond UK based players as well. A total Brexit FC approach is not only impractical financially. But more crucially choosing to deliberately cut ourselves off from the foreign market and talent is just not smart either, if we have any real designs to return back to the top and be truly competitive.

Erling Braut Håland is shining at Red Bull Salzburg and his profile fits perfectly into the strategy of the Red Devils.
He has already scored 21 goals so far this season, 16 goals in 14 Austrian league matches, 6 in 3 Champions League matches, for a 19-year-old that’s incredible!
Håland is 194 cm tall, powerful and quick, can score with both feets and good at headers, he looks the ideal replacement for Lukaku.

Haaland is an excellent potential candidate for many obvious reasons. But there are legitimate questions as to whether he'd even want to join us (despite having had Ole as his coach in Norway) because of his father, Alf Haaland (and his Leeds and City ties), and the fact that he himself is a self confessed Leeds fan.
But if there is a chance for us to get him, would certainly be a great acquisition. There are reports coming from Italy that Napoli are bowing out of the race to get him because they are convinced he's United bound. Italian reports though, so we'll see...
