Re: Landon transfer/loan rumors (Everton?) http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/donovan-deal-done.html Confirmed on the official site. What do I win?
Re: Landon transfer/loan rumors (Everton?) Unlimited trolling for 2 hours, starting.....now. I'll change the thread title accordingly.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] I think a loan extension is on the works if he does decent but coming back in March means Galaxy's marketing people can do the job easier.
Re: Landon transfer/loan rumors (Everton?) After we've had more than 1000 posts on this topic, I'm just glad the deal didn't fall through at the last minute.
Re: Landon transfer/loan rumors (Everton?) Stars and Stripes Foreverton! Stars and Stripes Foreverton!
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Just when my interest in Premier League soccer was fading, this will give me something to watch over the next few months. I've always thought Donovan connecting with Cahill would be an excellent combination.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] @ Arsenal Man City Sunderland @Wigan @ Liverpool Chelsea Man Utd @ Tottenham Hull @ Birmingham --- If he looks well after playing that gauntlet, someone is going to buy him. Period.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] IF someone adds USA tv times and channels to that I will love them forever.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Don't forget Sporting, twice (if he gets put on the Europa squad).
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Prediction: He'll be coming off the bench at 60, 70 minutes. He won't be starting.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Plus he'll be there through the QF's of the FA Cup if they make a run in that. And he'll still be around for the 1st leg of the Europa round of 16.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] prediction: all those 'injured' everton players will miraculously heal themselves and he wont see much time of anything.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] I find all this to be pretty interesting. I think there is a lot of room for debate as to whether Landon made a "good" decision to re-up with MLS. Personally, I think both options were "good" for him. I also think the league had a LOT of leverage over him with those two option years-- it just doesn't look like anyone was going to pay the fee that MLS wants for Landon. So, he stays in America and helps build the brand. That's good for us anyway. What I have serious doubts about are these loans. It's such a short window every year and I think it's going to be a very small market of takers. I'm not sure what he's going to get out of these loans without letting them run for the full second half of the season. Anyway, I wonder what will happen if Landon tears it up this summer in South Africa (unlikely, but possible). I wonder what the asking price will be for him under a 4 year contract.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] One thing that was evident at BM as well: the team hates you. You are stepping in, taking a starters role, have no investment in the club and yet are brought in to 'help' the team. It was pretty obvious the players at BM hated him. He would be wide open and that turkentop git would choose to try his hand at dribbling through 5 players. And I can't really blame them. Starting spots should be earned, and with 2.5mm investment over 3 months, Everton is going to look for return on investment.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Agree. Except that’s not really unique to BM. And who knows if the Everton players will really welcome Donovan (except for the obvious 1 or 2 and the management who wants him there) the rest of the Everton players may have found new motivation. That’s just the way it goes in Europe soccer, its cut throat. Many Yanks abroad have said the biggest difference between MLS and Euro league is in the competitiveness, you really do have no friends. Wish I could find that Benny Feilhaber quote now...
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Another thing that players like, though, is winning. If Landon can really help Everton win, he'll find a way into his teammates hearts. I think, though, that he'll also find his way back to the bench very quickly once their long-term players start to get healthy. The more I think about this, the more I say that everyone should be viewing these 10-weeks loans really as training stints for Landon. He gets to stay in shape and practice with really good players in the off-season, with the chance of some league apperarances. Those appearences, though, are really just gravy and not the meat of the arrangement. I think any higher expectations will be unhealthy for BS posters.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] First, Donovan's move to Everton is confirmed. Second, I graduate from college. So far, its shaping up to be a pretty good day.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] And the weight that the "1" carries at this club will be extremely important when it comes to players passing to him when he's open. They can't ignore him and get away with it at Everton. Which is nice.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Here are the games guaranteed to be on US TV. January 16, Everton vs. Manchester City, 12:30 EST on FSC February 6, Liverpool vs. Everton, 7:45 EST on ESPN2 February 27, Tottenham vs. Everton, 12:30 EST on FSC Some of the other games like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal or Sporting Lisbon are definite possibilities to be on Setanta or FSC as well.
Re: Confirmed: Landon on loan to Everton [R] Here's a more complete fixture list. I took liberty of rescheduling Saturday Premiership games after Thursday European matches to Sunday. Matches that may not happen are in gray and the Holland-USA friendly is in blue. The FA cup round 5 replay date clashes with Europa League matches, and if Everton (or, for that matter Liverpool or Fulham) need to play a fifth round replay, they're going to have to play it on a league date, play it on an international friendly date, or play it on Tuesday before the Europa League second leg fixture (which means playing four matches in nine days). If they make it to round 5 of the FA cup, then they'll have seven absolutely brutal matches in 23 days starting with the Merseyside Derby and ending at Tottenham before the international friendly date.
