Here is one http://www.latinosportslegends.com/Pele_bio.htm Wealthy European clubs offered massive fees to sign the young player, but the government of Brazil declared Pelé an official national treasure to prevent him from being transferred out of the country. Sorry, should have found this before posting
Ahhh, the benefits of a military dictatorship. Keeping Pele in Santos! Talk about times changing. Can't see Lula and the PT "alienating" a futbol player from the means of his production!
I'm very left and very Democratic but I will give props to President Bush for calling up the USMNT in Korea before the Mexico game to give encouragement although in his ingnoramus way he admitted "a lot of us over here really don't know the game very well." When told the President was on the line Donovan reportedly said "The President? The President of what?" If the election is a tie again we go to Bush and Kerry one-on-one penalty kicks, O.K.?
Just a simple request... can we keep the political slants (re the Presidential election) out of this thread, and out of this forum? I mean, that's what the Politics forum is for. Let's stay on the topic of Landon Donovan, and his present and future.
