Well, might as well post this:

Victoria Park Buckie may have a real international feel to it on Saturday, with an American born player lining up for the Jags and two African players possibly turning out for the Ben Men.

That report, from August 12, is from the web site of Buckie Thistle FC in reference to an upcoming match against Fort William FC. The subsequent match report (BTFC won 3-0) has no mention of any Yanks:

    http://www.buckiethistle.com/highland-league/viewresult.php?id=594

And finding information on Fort William is pretty difficult. They play in something called the Highland Football League:

    http://www.highlandfootballleague.com/

And while they supposedly have a web site, it doesn't do much:

    http://www.fortwilliamfc.org.uk/

I'll continue to poke around because, hey, that's what I do.

Buckie Thistle?? Were some Scots sitting around one night, playing the "what would your porn star name be?" game, and somehow decided on the perfect name for a soccer team?

Oh man...I thought maybe they named it after the recently captured Western NY cop killer legend, Buckie Phillips...

I erred in my original post. The American-born player actually was to play for Buckie Thistle, the "Jags." Fort William is the "Ben Men."

I thought I had our man: Stephen Bruce, who I believe graduated from Binghamton University in 2005.

    College bio:
    http://athletics.binghamton.edu/sports/msoc/bruce.html

Here's an article on him from the team:
    http://www.buckiethistle.com/highland-league/viewarticle.php?id=570

    And from the school paper:
    http://www.bupipedream.com/110502/sports/s3.htm

More from a Highland League web site:
    http://www.highlandleague.net/news3.cfm?newsid=3900&clubid=8

However, I don't know if the club would have referred to him as "American-born" (if in fact Bruce was) given that I believe he's someone they've known about for years. So, this may not be the guy.

I have contacted the club in hope of more info.

Update: This is not Bruce, but actually a player named Donnie Munro, born in the States to Scottish parents.

I'm still trying to dig up more information -- I'm told he played college ball here in the States. Complicating things somewhat is that the web is chock full of references to a popular Scottish musician of the same name. This guy may have played for a California community college called Irvine Valley, but that's just a guess.

Also, in 2006 he was called in to the Scottish amateur national team, just as Junior McDougald (another American-born player) was for England.

Then we had better hurry up and cap him. Gulati needs to hire a coach now, before it is too late.

Well, it was Donnie Munro, and he spent last season at Peterhead FC. However, he's moved back to Buckie Thistle for 08/09.

Also, he has a little brother named Hamish, who was also at Peterhead but may now be a free agent.

Not sure he's a Yank, though, since unlike Donnie he wasn't born in the U.S.

    For what it's worth...

Forres Mechanics have made inquiries to Scottish League Second Division club Peterhead about bringing former Forres favourite Hamish Munro back to Mosset Park.

And, amusingly (to me), about FMFC:

... the club is well known for getting a player sent off four times in one game against Inverurie in 1989 his name was Greg Massie and he never played for the club again.

Presumably he is still sitting out his suspension.

Thanks to the thread by @roversawh7, I figured I would grab a name and see what I could find.

Donnie Munro, born in 1981 somewhere in the US, midfielder.

Currently plays for Buckie Thistle F.C. which is in the Highland League, which is a part-time professional senior football league in the north of Scotland. The league, which is the fifth level within Scottish football, is a full member of theScottish Football Association. It currently consists of 18 teams from the Scottish Highlands as well as the lowlands of Morayand Aberdeenshire.

    Transfermarkt page: http://www.transfermarkt.com/donnie-munro/profil/spieler/63703

He hit 300 appearances for the club last year:

    300 Up For Donnie Munro

Prior to the League game against Keith the Jags talented veteran midfielder Donnie Munro was presented with a silver plate to mark his 300th appearance for the club which he made in the match up at Wick Academy last month. This was the latest landmark in a glittering career with Thistle and this career will be further marked with a testimonial year with a number of events in 2015 including a Testimonial Match next summer. Born in the USA, Donnie previously played for Huntly and Fochabers before signing for Thistle in the summer of 2004. However, in season 2002-03 he made a few appearances in the Aberdeenshire League side standing out in the title clincher against Huntly.

Donnie made his Jags debut on 2nd August 2003 and netted in the 3-1 home win over Fort William in the Highland League, the first of 64 goals in 301 appearances so far.

He's scored 2 goals in 13 competitive matches this season.

This was definitely pretty far down the list of threads I thought was likely to be revived. ;)
