This kid is free. A trial and a "shuttle" deal is peanuts compared to the potential. He's not Turkish ... although, he had played with a lot of Turkish guys too.
Not with that camera work! Oh and who's the dude who sprinted 80 yards for the 2nd (Wright's first) goal assist?
Look at 1:14 and focus on #7. The ball turns over and there are 15 players in front of him. He starts from his spot and receives the ball 10 secs later at the top of the 18 in line with the last 4 players! Good control, scoop by defender , and finish. Somewhere Herr Klinsmann is smiling!
while there's always a danger in making assumptions based on highlights...that just wasn't a team that could provide a challenge to these players
I don't hope its a clean break, just a fracture. Many people say broke when they mean fracture. god I hope its not a full snap of the leg. We'll find out soon.
hear, hear. also, not too many phrases make me literally sick to my stomach, but the bolded certainly does
http://owhentheyanks.com/2014/08/13/wright-bros-take-flight/ Schalke’s U17 & U16 squads just became a little much more interesting for US fans. Schalke 04, rumored to be close with both Haji & Hanif Wright, list Haji in the team photo as a “guest player.” Haji does not turn 18 until March 2016, but it is believed Schalke is primed to sign Wright before then. Haji was also just named to the US U18 team for a tournament in the Czech Republic: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/08/13/16/40/140813-u18-czech-roster
Good to hear. Is he staying with the U-17 residency team for the duration of the cycle or is he going to play with Schalke right away? Is he even eligible to play with Schalke right now?
He isn't eligible to go over to Germany full time until he is 18, because he doesn't have an EU passport. The article mentions that Schalke are looking for ways around this. I believe FCK did something similar for Mario Rodriguez before he turned 18, but a similiar attempt by Dortmund for Flores didn't work out. Have to ask some German posters with more info than myself on how that all works. But the fact that club like Schalke would be willing to jump through those kinds of hoops for him speaks for itself. Schalke produces a lot of young talent, but aren't known for bringing in a whole lot of foreigners into their youth setup either. Put this all together and they must really want this kid.
There is a subset of bigsoccer posters whose main mission is to follow youth soccer. And for a while now, the guys I respect the most have been saying that when they see a U15 or U17 match now, the tactical nous and especially the technical ability of the players is just miles ahead of what they saw even 10 years ago. I think with guys like Wright and Rubin and the rest, we're seeing that come to fruition.
