The goal: Solid work today, @Ddwyer14! Take another look at his first #USMNT goal. #USAvGHA pic.twitter.com/BCZPRQJ7KA— Major League Soccer (@MLS) July 1, 2017
He has his role. A harder working Wondo, consistent player. Check back next April to see if this role is wanted on the WC squad.
He looked good in his USA debut . . . https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/07/01/dom-dwyer-shows-his-quality-goal-us-national-team-debut “He works real hard, and in international football that’s a requirement,” head coach Bruce Arena said. “I think he has that quality as well, so for his first game, I thought he did very well.” That quality was on full display in the 19th minute, as he emphatically volleyed the opener home from eight yards out. After scoring, the 26-year-old wheeled to the corner flag, celebrated with a backflip and kissed the US badge. A Londoner by birth, Dwyer announced his place on the American soccer stage with a bang ahead of this summer’s Gold Cup. “It meant a lot to me,” Dwyer, whose wife Sydney Leroux plays for the women’s national team, said. “It’s been a long road to get here, and I really wanted to show the fans and show the country that I’m very passionate about this country. I’m very honored to play for this team, and hopefully it’s something we can build on.”
Smart player. Works hard. Makes good runs. Great technique on the finish. Fortunate that the Ghana left back apparently didn't get a plane ticket for his ears, but that's OK, take advantage of what you get. Isn't athletic enough to be a consistently good international player at the highest level. Could nick a goal for us at a good moment.
Dwyer's most well known celebration was his "Let me take a selfie" (with the crowd) after a 2014 MLS goal in Kansas City that caused international headlines, earned him a yellow card, and - as far as I know - stopped it from ever being done again in professional soccer. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-booked-celebrating-goal-snapping-selfie.html
No big deal... Well done my brother @Ddwyer14 #USMNT https://t.co/kd06KdbI77— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) July 2, 2017
Very excited to see more from Dom in a Nats jersey. So with just the one cap, he's already fourth on the forward depth chart (mine anyway--Jozy, Deuce, Wood). Does he have what it takes to move up? He made a lot of smart runs on Saturday--it would be great to see him linking up with our A-team midfield. But the Gold Cup will have to suffice. Can't wait. ~OGx3
Just that little resemblance to Diego Costa--the face, the physique, the nasty. As far as I can tell, Dom plays a whole lot cleaner. Maybe not a high standard for comparison ... ~OGx3

I'm getting serious Wondo vibes. Wondo put himself on the verge of making the WC team at this time four years ago, and solidified it early in the next year in friendlies against weak teams. Then when time came to perform at the highest level, he didn't do so, it was obvious he wouldn't be able to do so, and never has against high level competition. Can't blame Dwyer for scoring goals, but I'm not convinced. I'd like to see more, besides the goals. He's added nothing besides that the last two games.
But he doesn't score more than others. He's not even the top MLS scorer among this squad. So not only is he not such a more prolific goal scorer than others, but he adds absolutely nothing at the international game other than the ability to score a goal, which just about all our strikers can do. Food for thought: Dwyer hasn't scored for @SportingKC in close to 2 months. He now has 2 in his 1st 2 #USMNT caps. 🇺🇸🇺🇸 #GoldCup2017— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) July 8, 2017
