http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/167331-dejan-lovren-seals-liverpool-transfer Lovren is now officially a red! Here's hoping he becomes the CB we all want him to be and know he can become for years!
My guess is Agger. He's a ********ing hero and we all love him, but his play has regressed at a far greater rate than Skrtel's, and I don't think he wants to be a bench player anyways. It's probably best for everyone if he leaves. I'd wish him the best for sure though.
his photos follow the "liverpool players leaning on things" trend to a whole new amazing level There's one where he's leaning, on an open cubby hole
I think they'll be given the opportunity to be the first choice pairing - if all else fails they can communicate in english or french....
I listened to a podcast recently where one of the guests droned on and on about how Lovren plays LCB 95% of the time. I'm not sure if it's true or not (the same guy also said Bony had a far superior SOG% than Remy; he doesn't) but I think he'll get every opportunity to play RCB alongside Sakho. I can't imagine we'd buy a £20M defender who can't pair with our £18.5M defender.
Wow, well if Lovren steps in immediately and leads the back line while on the pitch then we should see an improvement based on positioning alone
Good - can't wait to see that! With a better defense, we'll find the goal scoring. Here's hoping we move from 2 to 1. I agree with Neville on the positioning - but the guilty parties are Skrtl and Sakho who are still here. I hope Lovren pushes everyone to the top of the 18 quickly and pushes the attack upfield.
This is how and why we gave up so many goals last season. We give attackers time and space too close to our box and the biggest culprits is Skrtel. His biggest flaw is his proclivity to running towards our goal as soon as an attacker runs at him. And he drags the entire team back with him.
A big part of this is coaching and coaching philosophy. Our CBs have been "backpedaling" the whole time BR has been here - no matter who was in the game. Our coaching staff relies on individual experience of key players to hold a higher line (ex: Carragher) when necessary, and it's not always worked well that way. Skrtel has gotten better, but we certainly could use Lovren to give more instruction to his teammates.
Dave Hendrick on Anfield Index? His Lallana rants are even more tiresome. I kinda gave them a rest this summer, but checked back in for that one.
I agree some of it has to fall on the coaching. We don't seem to defend as a team even when we have numbers back. But Rodgers has always talked about this being a process and he clearly identifies defense as an area of need.
i'm gradually talking myself into liking this signing. seeing him play for us should help. i imagine he'll start the bvb match.
Of course - at one point we were setting the record at both ends of the pitch, most goals scored/game and conceded/game. We all know what happened when it bit us in the ass. Having a sound defense is essential if Liverpool have got any serious ambition in Europe. That's the single greatest need this team has, even sans Suarez.
I thought they were always positive haha. I guess I'm a bit more excited, but I already thought of him as a top CB
