I used to drink pop when I was growing up in New York. Now that I'm in Ohio, I seem to drink soda. http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~almccon/pop_soda/
Definitely Pop. Only the real tools call it cola. It's like, they should just KNOW better than to call it that because you know it's confusing. You can be assured it's pop in all NW Ohio, as well. Not just hick-town K-town.
Actually, here in Oklahoma wer call it all "Coke." If you are heading to the Sonic on a friday night you go out for "a coke." whether you get Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc. When I first met my wife 15 years ago ( she is from upstate NY) she asked if I might ever go out with my ex girlfriend in the future. I responded that I might go out for a coke with her. My future wife thought I said "poke". Needless to say until I cleared up that I was not going to go out for Poke she did not speak to me. Just goes to show the euphamisms from each state.
'What would you like, sir?" "A coke." "What kind, sir?" "What the hell do you mean what kind, I said I wanted a coke!" "Yes, but what kind?" "Goddamn it, just give me a water!"
