I do not believe that I can be disappointed in any outcome from the fired FBI director testifying on Capitol Hill about an investigation into the President of the United States. Remember, I'm a political scientist. I enjoy this stuff even in mundane times.
Comey is a lawyer. He's not going to drop any bombshells while there's an open ongoing investigation. If there is any juicy material it'll be denied due to its classified nature. If there is any intrigue, it'll be like a sacrifice bunt. Just enough to keep people talking for a couple of news cycles
To recap the Trump faction in the last few hours: 1) Comey is a liar 2) Comey proves we are not being investigated 3) Trump is a bold, decisive leader who is new to all this give him time, okay 4) I'm John McCain and I don't know where I am Sure, I'm all for electing this lot again.
This is...odd. So, why hold an election if there is only one person who can be estimated to have a "realistic shot at winning?" I thought we weren't Mubarak's Egypt, or Stalinist Soviet Union.
I'll defend self-described deplorables right to vote. Whether they live or die is not something I particularly care about.
With this weekend's news, and the outcome of the G-20 and Trump's meeting with Putin, I think it's safe to say that our worst fears about Trump are coming to pass. So this thread deserves a bump. I'm fearful for democracy. Zakaria warned in the 90s about the rise of illiberal democracy, and we're seeing it. Sadly, the defense against this is illiberal democracy. Assuming we don't want to take a chance of this happening again, we have a choice between not letting people who consume propaganda vote, or regulating news content to stop "news" organizations from lying to voters and tricking them into believing things that aren't true. Those are 3 shitty, shitty choices.
It doesn't have to be illiberal democracy. We had a massive course-correction needed in 1861. We need one now. Our democracy didn't stop because eleven states fought a war. It adapted and evolved. We need to adapt and evolve it now. One election where they sit out would give the rest of the country time to modify the Constitution to avoid these problems in the future. Just like with the 13-15th Amendments.

So when do we send the troops to South Carolina? But then again, we are in a position where Lincoln loses the election.
We won't have to worry about letting "Them" vote The question is "Will" they let us vote??? ALEC Is Talking About Changing the Way Senators Are Elected and Taking Away Your Vote A proposed resolution advocates for overturning the 17th Amendment so Republican-controlled state legislatures could pick senators. We have a President who condones white nationalists and actual Nazis. And some of you are okay with his supporters getting a chance to re-elect him? Okay! Good for you, I guess!
Right. https://politicalwire.com/2017/08/16/trump-crush-kasich-primary-challenge/ Hey, in the future, do your own ********ing work.
https://politicalwire.com/2017/08/28/gop-lawmaker-floats-measure-stop-mueller-probe/ What the actual ********. Seriously, the district is R+7. This guy isn't safe enough to do this. Why is he? Why do they feel so confident about their electoral chances they didn't even try on health care and are now gearing up to fail a debt-ceiling bill? Does anyone here legitimately believe this is how a governing party should operate in a democracy? Does anyone here legitimately believe a majority of the country wants any of these policies? A plurality? We have to do something.
