I have never had any exotic pets myself, but it's amazing that certain people would even go for hardcore predators - tigers, lions, alligators etc. as pets. Rats and other rodents seem to be almost as domesticated as dogs, though the lack of hygienic habits is indeed a major issue.
On that subject, this is incredibly sappy but completely unmissable. Everybody reading this thread hsould give it a look: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVNTdWbVBgc"]YouTube - christian the lion[/ame]
Thanks, very touching video, it seems as if they had developed an excellent relationship with Christian! I like happy animal stories!
I - and EVERYBODY I know - thought the same the first time. I even spent a split second thinking 'holy shit! He's mauling one of them and the other is giving him a hug!?'
It took about a week for us to move both of the dwarf hamsters and their cages out of the girls' room and into their bathroom - the things made so much noise at night that our daughters could not sleep. So noise and allergies are already an issue, and as the week goes on approaching the weekly cleaning, smell. But the weirdest thing about the things is the grass or grain growing out of the drain in the girls' bathroom sink. One of the hamsters regularly knocks its food out of its cage and into the sink; some of it goes down the drain. Then about once every six weeks grass comes peeking out of the drain, and no matter what we pour down there, we can't get rid of it properly. Delightful!
Birds are the worst.... especially when you have a cat. Trust me, what you see between cats and birds in the cartoons is not just a stereotype.
They must be two of the stupidest people ever to walk the face of the earth. People that dumb deserve to get bloody eaten. They reminded me of that story about a couple of dozy arseholes visiting the woods in Yosemite, (or wherever), who smeared their little kids hands with honey and waited for a bear to come and lick it off. The bear, not knowing that was the plan, bit the kids hand off. My parents used to breed English bull terriers and I learned very early on to show animals respect, particularly if they have bleedin' great teeth and claws. In fact, they don't even need those... Close the thread. The second and last rat finally died. I'm waiting through one trash pickup. Then will throw out every single cage, water bottle, chew toy, exercise ball, or other rodent paraphenalia we have.
