Any word on the format (i.e. how may move on to the second round of qualifying)? EDIT: Never mind, they have it on the Wikipedia page. And if their info is correct, then only the Turks and Caicos Islands and Sint Maarten have opted out. I'm especially happy to see Bermuda participating (...that they got placed in the same first-round group as Haiti, not so much...), since they proved their quality in World Cup qualifying last year. I would not be surprised to see them qualify for the Caribbean Cup finals.
Jamaica are defending champs....they are automatically in final group stage, so is antigua since they are the hosts
Yes and i'm pleased to see that almost all CFU's members participating to the tournament. Especially since the DCC will lead us to the CONCACAF Gold Cup for next year. It is also important that qualifications for the World Cup. If i make a projection for the second round, i see Martinique may be again our next opponent. A team that we beat regulary now. And i am also pleased with the return of the french guyanese in this competition.

Sint Maarten last played around 12 years ago. I think their absence has a lot to do with eligibility issues and politics. However, their youth national teams are playing some matches, and they at least had the intention of playing in the 2012 Digicel Cup (as reported in the local press), so maybe they will be ready by the next edition. It's surprising they have renewed their CONCACAF membership throughout this period (doesn't this involve paying some subscription fee?) but have largely been absent from CONCACAF competitions. Their most recent participation was in 2008 (CONCACAF Futsal Championship), but before this, the last tournament they played was the 1997 Caribbean Cup (qualifier for the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup), after having been regular entrants in this competition in the previous years. A few Leeward Islands Championship matches in 1997 and 1998 followed, and then their last international appearance was in a friendly tournament in the British Virgin Islands in April 2000 (a 1-3 defeat to Dominica).
I expect the group involving Martinique and French Guiana will be moved to alternative dates. Martinique and French Guiana will both be playing in the 2012 Coupe de l'Outre-Mer in France from 22-29 September.
date of finals is bs...this is why caribbean football not progressing, why is the finals not on an intl date?
Agreed its amazing how much push back I get from Caribbean fans when I point things like this out. At this point the CFU should do a better job of scheduling their tournaments.
this is why you have lame teams like grenada in gold cup...cause now teams like trinidad, antigua, etc are at a disadvantage cause their intl players cannot play, this is a tournament that qualifies the regions best teams for the gold cup, I figured they would of kept it in june of this year like they do with the euro cup...mls is off rest of the world is playing
Just when you think the qualifying groups are set, with some to begin this month - http://www.natiosuriname.com/2012/07/nieuwe-poule-voor-suriname-in-caribbean.html 3-10 September 2012 GROUP 5: Martinique Suriname British Virgin Islands Montserrat
Other groups you mean? Not yet. Aruba still thinks they are playing Dominica, Barbados and Suriname as originally announced. Suriname say they got their info from CFU. It appears that CFU send lots of info to their members (about draws, etc.), but don't make it public.
http://www.natiosuriname.com/2012/07/svb-ontstemd-over-onbegrijpbare.html Suriname authorities not happy with CFU changing the draw.
Haiti websiite report that Haiti will be hosting one group from 5. to 12. September. Teams : Haiti , Bermuda, Puerto Rico and St Martin
The Puerto Rico Islanders' coach (Adrian Whitbread) said Sunday, his team would lose players to national call ups in September. FIFA's international match calendar allows for two official matches from September 7 through 11. I know this tournament doesn't follow the international dates, but it is more convenient for teams to release players with thes games schedueld for the 5th through the 12th when they had already anticipated losing players to international call ups around this time.
