You seem to be having many Nazi fantasies these days. my first thought when I hear solidarity is the fall of Soviet influence in Poland following the coordinated labor efforts of some dock workers.

Really? Of course, the whole point of the Walesa christening the movement with that word was in fact to engage in irony -- solidarity had been, by an large, a concept claimed by the true Marxist/Fascist/Totalitarian types.

Then again, irony isn't a real strong suit of leftists like you.

I'm shocked that a grassroots group called Kids for Obama wasn't aware of the ironic nature of the naming of Solidarity--an irony that I haven't heard about before reading this thread and that isn't mentioned on Solidarity's homepage.

Gimme a break...you know, and everyone else knows, that "solidarity" is one of those code words sooooooo favored by the Stalinists and Maoists out there. They love that word. They positively caress it.

And, to brush you up on their history, there was no more anti-Stalinist, anti-Leninist, anti-communist group that the Gdansk shipyard movement. They used that word to turn the meaninglessness of it in the totalitaran world into a true use of it.

The Obama Jugend march is a weak kneed, watered down version of it. It is fascism with a smiley button!

    Oh, yeah....one more thing.

    SIG!!!

So it sounds like "solidarity" has a true use that isn't, you know, offensive.

So Gringotex, I assume you voted for Nader, right?

Because you said people who support School Vouchers are stupid. You said people who are opposed to gay marriage are bigots. So please don't tell me you acted like a hypocrite and voted for the stupid bigot Obama? Do you support the FISA bill? Obama does. So then I can only assume you voted for Nader.

Hey, Gringo, die Obamajungend ist STILL auf dem Marsch! 100,000 were in Grant Park, tearing up over the messiah's annointment. How long before you think they are disappointed?

Meanwhile, when I wrote that, it was true. I said I wouldn't be surprised if the Dems were in permanent minority status, and I wouldn't have been.

So, here's what I won't be surprised by:

The messianic patina of BO wearing off and disillusioning the vast swath of brain dead liberals as he moves inexorably to the center.

    Why?

Let’s remember that Obama also wants to be re-elected. But of course he has raised a huge amount of expectation among the global Left -- i.e, folks like you.

So when he fails to immediately surrender to the Taliban, apologize to al-Qaeda, kowtow to Hugo Chavez, and deliver up the Israelis on a platter, and cave into Iran, just watch how quickly the “Left” will turn on him (World Can’t Wait has already started). They will learn that their quarrel was not with that murderous fascist Bush but rather with the arrogant, greedy, coarse, unilateralist, capitalist-imperialist America people themselves, darn them.

Despite pathetic attempts to paint him as a marxist, Obama has always been at the center and has no where to move. Ted points out above that Obama has consistently held positions that are centrist. His team of economic advisors are free market U of C economists and not socialist zealots.

I have said this from the beginning on threads when Obama emerged on the national scene. He is a pragmatic politician who has strong ideals but will constantly look for those areas of more universal agreement and work on those. This isn't new. It's old school politics that guys like Orrin Hatch and ted Kennedy and Tip O'Neill have practiced from the beginning but that have been lost as the radical fringes on both sides grew in their ability to persuade (and create a nice little niche market to make themselves rich on radio and tv).

I think the far left has already been adequately introduced to an Obama that will not match their zealousness on many issues. FISA was a major let down for a small minority with stars in their eyes. It was at that point (if not before) that the notion of kool-aid drinking followers got flushed down the toilet. His "followers" and many, many more people who voted for him this time did so because they WANT a cool calculating hand to manage a mountain of difficult issues. They are tired of tough talk and dumb action. That is why Obama was able to pick up Virginia and now it looks like NC as well.

That is why Ohio and PA weren't swayed by the last ditch Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright attacks and gave Obama fairly comfortable wins in states that were targeted by the Republicans based on the primaries and the "working class whites."

Obama will not disappoint the far left because they already know that he is not Rachael Carson or Ralph Nader or MLK. He is not a one or two issue idealogue -- not surprising as those people cannot win elections.

You know, I don't get the sense Bill posts here much anymore, but I have a feeling he'd have told you that this thread is pretty offensive Karl. There are times when you can compare people to Nazis. But it ain't when you're talking about giving kids balloons.

    Oh, puhleeze.

Unlike some wild eyed leftists, I don't engage in moral equivalence -- like for example, Keith Olberman saying Bush is just as bad as terrorists.

But the irony of course is that the fascistic sensibiliy -- but sugar coated and highly dumbed down -- is alive and well in the enclaves of Santa Monica, Westport, the Upper West Side, and Newton, and other blue urban communities that suck their children into the political debate, thinking that they are "englightened" as a result.

It's the sensibility that allows impressionistic and immature children to sing the praises of the wise leader, to write and sing lyrics of utterly banal and idiotic devotion. Barack Obama is not Hitler, and certainly no Kim Jong Il, but the chord he strikes in the ga ga eyed children, and their smiling and approving parents, is, in the end, of the same mindlessness, though again purely saccharine, that allowed the Hitler youth the chant the name of the Fuerhrer as they began the school day.

Classic debating technique from a lefty -- accuse the other side of doing the same thing that your opponents do, only worse.

My advice to you? Take a negotiations course at GSB. You're gonna need it.

Meanwhile, go find a you tube video of a bunch of YAF members singing a song of praise to Ronald Reagan. We'll see you back here in about three decades.

Man, you put a lot of weight on that one creepy little video. Relax Karl. The sun came up yet again today.

The election is over and it is time to get to work. You seem to be stuck in campaign mode, however, focusing on "celebrity" and William Ayers and all of the bullshit. I happen to know many, many Obama supporters. Contrary to your depiction, all of them are sober, pragmatic people who happen to finally be excited about a political leader. What in the hell is wrong with that?

Obama will be president of the United States of America. My president and yours. If you want to carry on and pray for failure at the expense of your country, be my guest. As things have unfolded, I am convinced more than ever that this is the right man at the right time. He has solid advisers all around. My guess is that the press conference this afternoon will help reaffirm my confidence.

It's not too late Karl. Jump on board. :D

Au contraire -- he may do just fine. That would be OK with me. I can't wait till he pays my mortgage and fills my tank. After all, I don't cling to guns and religion -- I deserve MINE.

Meanwhile, that such a video COULD be made, with zero sense of irony, speaks volumes about a certain strain of Obamamania.

As I said elsewhere, with the Obama administration it will either be crazed liberalism, a repeat of Jimmy Carter, or the third Clinton term. The latter possibility would be perfectly OK.

I might even write a song about it.

Having worked in the fund business, I have to tell you Booth is quite the legend. DFA is an astonishing success story.

Guess you didn't find that video of the young 'uns singing a hymn to Reagan, eh?

    Welcome back.

We studied DFA a bit in a prior investments class, actually. I wouldn't say I know a lot about the guy, but yeah, he's clearly quite savvy.

    Does this count?
