Faber needed more power up the pitch with midfielder Bacuna.

 

He's decided to move on this summer:

Two players will leave after this season in the Northern Leases ground: Hedwiges Maduro and Desevio Payne. ... Defender Desevio Payne came in 2012 from the amateurs of Zeeburgia, played in the then A1 and FC Groningen under-23 and now came into action 17 times in the Eredivisie. He made one goal. Payne for the club sees insufficient prospects of much playing time in the Premier League.

Damn..... That really stinks. Hopefully there's something else lined up.

 

So he's played a lot the last number of weeks but has decided that he doesn't have a good chance at playing time next season? Seems strange.

 

Probably he is aware the club is bringing new fullbacks.

 

I'm sure they told him he's not in their plans. They can't replace him now, but will this summer.

 

He just got benched for not bringing enough to the attack.

Excelsior haalt back op bij FC Groningen

Desevio Payne heeft onderdak gevonden bij Excelsior. De 21-jarige verdediger komt over van FC Groningen, waar zijn aflopende contract niet werd verlengd. Als Payne door de medische keuring komt, tekent hij onder een contract voor twee jaar met de optie voor nog een seizoen.


"Excelsior is misschien een kleinere club dan FC Groningen, maar het is wel een warme club. Dat merkte ik meteen toen ik er was. Ik wil mij focussen op speeltijd en daarom is Excelsior volgens mij de juiste keuze", liet Payne weten op de website van de Rotterdamse eredivisieclub.

De verdediger debuteerde in februari 2015 voor FC Groningen tegen SC Heerenveen en kwam in tweeënhalf seizoen tijd tot 17 competitiewedstrijden en één doelpunt.

 

That's a really good move for him. Hopefully, he can be a consistent starter for the club.

Except for having to trade Friesland for Belgium, it's a good move.

 

Wonder if he expects to be a starter...

Excelsior! Desevio Payne in Rotterdam.

Stan Lee is the first thing I think of when I hear the word excelsior.

 

You pagan, it should be "In Excelsis Deo"!!

 

"There's something Rotten in Belgium. Poor Desivio Payne has to leave the open, welcoming mountains of Frysk to go to the lowest of the low countries but at least it's not Feyenoord which would have been worse than anything anyone could imagine" has a certain ring to it...

 

The incumbent right back, Khalid Karami, has an expiring contract and says he would like to move to a better club, though he is still considering re-signing with Excelsior. If Karami does leave, Payne would appear to be the next-highest choice at right back.

 

Defender Lorenzo Burnet joins Desevio. Interesting detail is that Lorenzo was with FC Groningen cup winner in 2015.

Season starts coming saturday july the 1st with training breaking the summer holidays.
