Pretty sure Ussoccer knew about him a couple of years ago. The poster. Dr.soccer90 alerted Ussoccer about him before this thread was even created.

"Monday I fly to London and we both play an exhibition game against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21 (27 March - ed) and England under-20 (29 March). Of course I immediately said yes to the invitation. I also do not doubt because I received an invitation for an Orange team. I'll go see what's coming at me, how it is there. At this moment I remember anything about the team. "

I like that he is using the word "We" when referencing the US. Not sure what he meant in bold.

He said: Of course I said yes immediately to the invitation. I didnot have to doubt either as I didnot receive an invitation from the Orange team. I observe what is coming my way, how it is like there. At this moment I have no knowledge of the team at all.

Another article from the club (in Dutch):

Payne: "An honor to play for the national team '

"Friday was a practice match against Tottenham Hotspur behind closed doors. In the first half, we played against a team with a number of players from the first selection of the Spurs and, after the break, it was the under-21 squad. I started as right and came in the first half by allowing an injury to a teammate central. After the break, the coach would like to see me at left back. That match at three different positions went fine.

On Sunday, the poster was an England international match with all the trimmings, says Payne. "In the stadium in Plymouth were the stands packed with 11,000 British and advance the national anthems were played. It is truly an honor to play for my country, to stand behind the flag and hear the national anthems. It was amazing. We lost 2-1 and I played eighty minutes at left central defender. I have a good feeling from that."

"Soon, the long list of 35 names for the World Under-20 will be announced at FIFA. The coach said he was happy and I hope I am on that."

Smooth and composed, nice speed, good passing and plays hard for a guy who still has some filling out to do. He took a bit of a lickin' for an RB but still went the full 90 minutes.
